I've owned my dog for about 5 years now. When i got him he was full grown so im assuming he is about 7 years old. He's a mutt. He is great with people and kids but very animal aggressive.

Couple months ago he got out and fought the neighbors lab mix. It was in front of my house, on my property. Both dogs were bloody but fine.

Tonight while walking him, his pinch collar came apart (he's a runner). Another neighbors shih tzu got out and he attacked it drawing blood. The dog was fine but Im seriously thinking about putting my dog down. I have a baby on the way and he cant be trusted anymore.

Anyone have any experience like this? I dont think his aggression can be broken...

Breaks my heart.

That's rough man. Maybe give obedience school a try? I wouldn't put it down though. You may be able to find someone with some land who needs a guard dog.

There's no way I would have a dog I couldn't trust around a child.

I have a dog with similar aggression issues and I would genuinely never consider putting him down.

Have you tried socialization classes? A muzzle when he's in public? Being a responsible owner rather than putting down an animal because you aren't a good owner?

Pet adoption. Don't put him down.

Too many people act like dogs are stuffed animals. Come on man.

Get a shock collar and roll that MFer into the dirt if he shows aggression towards another dog or person.

Grow up. He's made it clear he's looking for more options.

Also consider neutering him if he's not already

If he's genuinely considering putting down his dog, I'm recommending that he grow up.

Not a good owner? frick you buddy. I got him when i was single...now im a father and living in a family neighborhood with kids in and out of the house. Like i said, he is good with people but if he gets out...he's a danger to every pet in my neighborhood. I'm here looking for alternatives...not popping him with a .22 in the back of the skull... save the bad owner bullshite.

Is he "fixed?"
Does he get enough strenuous exercise?
Is there a public park where he can see and smell other dogs in a controlled setting?

Fine, perhaps you're right and I got unneccessarily aggressive. I'd recommend you put me down.

But really, my bad on the bad owner comments. I just really hate when people euthanize dogs because it's inconvenient for them. You came asking for advice, so I'll try to give it:

1. Muzzle your dog on walks
2. Bring him to socialization classes
3. Neuter him if he isn't already
4. Keep him indoors and have a contained space where he can exercise
5. Find a family that can take him and has the capacity to handle his socialization issues

I guess what I'm saying is, do anything but just put the dog down.

Do some YouTube studying. Collaring and the way you speak can make a difference in control. I always put mine on her back to scold her while i hold my hand on her chest. I don't strike, but something about her being on her back and my tone of voice gets her attention.

Maybe give the dog to someone who can handle it. You can't keep your dog on his damn leash and HE has to die? What?

Re-home it to a person before killing. Or try to. Death for a loyal friend shouldn't be a go-to first solution.

I'd give a lot to have my dog back.

Go buy a cheap shock collar, walk him, and as soon as you see aggression tell him NO! followed by some voltage in his neck. You'd be surprised at how well dogs take to electric stimulation. My dog is good with other dogs in people, but he barks and will run up to see who you are. Obviously, that's not cool with me and scares the shite out of people even though I'm 100% certain he won't harm them. If I crank his collar to a level 10, he would probably do a backflip.

He's a killer, you dont understand. He goes for the throat everytime. Its scary to see TBH. The shock collar, muzzle and socialization are all great ideas but i just dont know if theyll break this aggression. He gets locked in and i cant break his attention.

How does he act on a leash? Will he try to rip it from you and go after something?
