Call a lawyer that handles maritime cases right now. They arent hard to find.
At a minimum you will get comp for your injury, if you were improperly terminated you will be reinstated and get back pay and damages, if there was 3rd party negligence that led to your injury thats a Jones Act Seamen claim (cha ching)
They can also help you with further medical treatment if needed.
Call now.

Got a buddy that broke his hip in O&G and they gave him a huge settlement from it. Enough to where he decided it was time to get out of the rigging side of it and now is in sales for a different company.
Also, you could maybe think about opening like a lawn and landscape business. Quick and cheap startup and a pretty easy way to make some scratch for now.
Best of luck in your future endeavors, my friend.

Man, I share your pain. The port of Iberia has two companies that will be employing up to 300 people in the next few months. The thing is I'm pretty sure the pay will be horrible but it's worth a look. I have over 22 resumes out their with no hits, fricking sucks

We would rather our handouts go to somebody like you than the other kind if you know what I mean. At least you want to work. Good luck.

I travel back and forth between Beaumont and Baton Rouge, I see performance contractor trucks on the road heading all over and also look at CBI. With Performance you could literally work anywhere

I got nothing for you when it comes to O&G jobs. I just wanted to tell you to hang in there, man. Life is a fricking a-hole sometimes...
Right now you're in a shiticane in the middle of a low-shite system... but the shite winds will pass.

I know one thing, there are many things I would never come to the OT for advice on, but if I get laid off one day, I'm coming here. Some very good leads for Cork.

Not necessarily. I've been moving around all over the country, as well as overseas, for the past 5 years now. If it's worth it, I'll consider anything really.

I've been paying into the system long enough.. If I got laid off I'd be in the unemployment line ASAP without a shred of guit

ok, forgetting 'whats available' for the moment, what would you enjoy doing the most on a day-to-day basis?
in other words, if you had a job opp you planned to keep for the next 5 or so years, what is it you want spend your day doing?

As a former WC adjuster, why did you not receive comp? And your former technically (does it happen? Sure) can't fire you for getting injured OTJ. I hate to say this, but unless there was a legit reason (positive drug test/didn't really happen OTJ) for denying your claim you ought to lawyer up to fight this!
As for actual jobs, sorry, but I can't help you there. Good luck!

What kind of environmental stuff? I saw a job posting for a plant around Alec looking for an environmental manager

They tried to say it was a pre-existing condition because I had broken that arm previously and therefore wouldn't be covered. However, after speaking with an attorney, that isn't the case whatsoever. I've retained counsel and we are pursuing civil action.

I worked on the BP oil spill as a cleanup worker/financial auditor. I also worked on the bird flu epidemic in Iowa last year as a project manager.
The bird flu thing is supposed to pick back up again, but no one knows when and I have lost most of my contacts in that arena.

I enjoy field work the most, the main thing I liked about the oilfield was the camaraderie that I had with my crews; they were like brothers to me, and I still speak to many of them today.
I wouldn't say I dislike office work, as long as I'm kept busy. I can't sit in an office and stare at a computer all day waiting for something to come up. I also enjoy designing/testing pilot units (small scale versions of a product that will be put into fullscale production).
I'm open to a lot of things, it's just the majority of my experience is in O&G, so that's all I really know. I really enjoy politics and history, but I don't see any opportunity for that other than teaching.
