Define "fired for cause"

It means you sucked at your job, always came in late, showed up drunk....things like that. It doesn't apply to you if they only fired you because of your arm.

In that case no, I wasn't fired for cause.

I loved my job, and was damn good at it. I love running mixing plants, I can't imagine ever not going back to it.

I mean technically maybe you were because you couldn't do the job due to a broken arm and couldn't do your job but the fact that you broke it while on the job would really piss off a judge.

Best advice: swallow the pride. It will hurt you every time. No job is too low for you. Take the unemployment. You paid for it or the employers who laid you off did.

Pride doesn't pay bills nnor does it feed you. If you need help finding jobs, ask.

trouble is, he says the business has closed...so everyone has been laid off anyway. sounds to me like corko got laid off a little early because the doc couldn't release him for anything but light duty.

damn strange mix of worker's comp, disability, and basic layoff....

Long term I'd try to leave oil field and get into Petro Chem, much more stable Imo

May take a while but plant life is much more dependable

I see you haven't been on in a while, and you never responded to the email I sent about the job that I had at a plant in Geismar waiting for you.(To corkfather@gmail.com May 19 at 11:54 AM)

Anyone know this guy? Did he get an offshore job that has no internet?

Earlier in the thread he mentioned not having internet, but I assume he was using his phone to connect.

Several people on the board know him IRL.

What was your injury, and when was your operation?

I'm asking because those restrictions are pretty generic, playing it safe. In general, that's completely reasonable.

For example, that's the same advice that your average Joe would get after surgical fixation of a metacarpal fracture with a plate. But, with the same injury and treatment, Emmitt Smith didn't miss a single game in the 1999 season. Same for Julio Jones in 2010.

It sounds like times are tough for you right now. I'd hate for you to miss out on a good opportunity due to post-op restrictions.

Not sure where you are located, but I'm looking to hire employees to work in the industrial hygiene field in the Gonzales/Baton Rouge area.

I work for a global safety consulting firm. Any interest in industrial hygiene?

Also, my office in Beaumont/Port Arthur is hiring as well for industrial hygiene technicians.

He got shot a couple of times in a home invasion robbery about five years ago. I think he may have broken his arm on the job more recently, requiring an additional surgery.

Between getting shot, his friend being killed, the fricked up justice system in N.O., and the O&G downturn, this guy is going through a lot of shite.

Safe working environment, permissable exposure limits and other work related overall safety of the employment area. It's not just OSHA regs, its auditing the area for things that cause undo stress to the employee, that could cause issues to arise.

Hourly depends based on experience and education. Not something I would post on a forum but would discuss in an interview after reviewing a résumé.

And didn't you just start a new job?
