Back in the 70’s and early 80’s, it was the thing to be on, a 24 hr telethon featuring who’s who of the celebrity world. The Rat Pack, among others were the highlight of the show.

We all know that (as well as TDgumbo), that’s why I didn’t answer his stupid question.

I saw one when I was about 12. The highlight was seeing the crazy lounge acts who got on in the middle of the night. My fave was some paunchy guy in his fifties who squeezed himself into an Elvis jumpsuit and sang Billy Joel's "You May Be Right".

Chris Rock had a good take on it. They raised millions and never cured shite. At least buy the kids a table dance at the local strip club.

frick Jerry Lewis.

He made everyone feel sorry for people with Muscular Dystrophy and there have been several times when I told people I have MD they would say "Oh you are one of Jerry's kids".

Then every year he use to say the same ole shite "We are this close to finding a cure. We just need the money to keep researching so we can put a stop to this".

I always use to wonder.. "Where are all these people doing research? And why do they never talk to them. Ask them details about the research, etc?".

He got called out a few times about where the money actually went, but that squashed that from being a story pretty quick.

Did they ever parade you out during local coverage to help get the phones ringing?

That was the best part of the whole thing, the telethon started on like Fri night or Sat morning and didnt go off the air til late Monday.. we used to take up residence at the local Jaycees Lodge (it was a sort of fraternal organization in the old days, early 1980s, like the Knights of Columbus or the Lions Club) and us kids would sleep on matttresses on the floor while our parents worked round the clock helping to raise money for Jerry’s Kids... i had forgotten all about that til i saw this thread.
