Good for you.
Alcohol is some evil stuff, man. I know a lot of people enjoy it and if they can control it, then great. But it can so easily ruin not just your life but a lot of others.
My grandfather was driving home drunk from Dauphin Island one night and t-boned a car, killing a dad and his two sons. He went to prison for manslaughter and died there. At one time he was the mayor of his town and the owner of a successful trucking business.
My dad had a stretch in his life when he had to live alone for professional reasons. When I was growing up he always drank but my mom kept him in check and it never really got out of hand. Without her around, though, it got a grip on him that he was never able to get out of and the last ten years or so of his life were pure misery for him and my mom. At one time he was a successful high school football coach who won multiple state championships.
Ironically, my dad told me when I was a teenager that if I ever came home with alcohol on my breath he would tear my arse up, so I never did. My mother never touched it and those two influences lead to me never drinking at all, which I’m thankful for.
IMO, the only way to get out of its grip once it has you is a tremendous amount of discipline and finding something else to focus on that keeps you occupied and gives you fulfillment.
Good luck!

Sunlight
Avoid seed oils
Ride an alpaca
Red light therapy
Eat grass fed and finished beef
Eat raw un heated honey and organic fruit
Find a tribe to bond with
Sunbathe your balls
Eat beef liver
Go outside bare foot
Read philosophy don’t watch the news
Do all this and you will thrive primal

Back then I used to say that saving for retirement was borrowing from the poorest time of my life to fund the richest time of my life. That didn’t make sense to me then, and it still doesn’t.

Been sober a few months. Feel great physically and mentally, but I’m bored to death. Drinking was my pastime. No kids or family, hate yard work… feel like a bum sitting at home.
Go to the gym. Try Brazilian jiu jitsu. Find something healthy to fill the void.

can’t stop either when I drink so I just don’t do it
This is me. I'm not necessarily an alcoholic in the sense of being addicted and needing it 24/7, but when I drink I can't control myself. Had some issues with it last November that made me make the decision to never drink again. I went to meetings at first. Although I personally don't think I need them, I highly recommend finding. good meeting if you need help. I met some very inspirational, successful, smart, and tough people there. I thought it'd all be degenerates. And honestly found some meetings that were. But the church in the nicer community I live in is filled with successful people who just had a problem. And due to their experience, they are very open to being helpful.

Get in a program. Surround yourself with people that will support you and not enable you or be a stumbling block for you. Hitting the gym is also a good recommendation. Hobbies are good as well. Its a mental battle and keeping yourself occupied in healthier pursuits will help.

What are you going to do with the booze and drugs you didn’t use before you quit? Asking for a friend.

It did. I’m 59 and only working because I want to.
