I spent well over 3k and in return got a single pair of socks . And I’m good . Because I’m a grown arse man . When I was a boy I wanted toys and presents. Now I just want everybody to get along, love each other and enjoy their gifts . Gimme a cup of coffee and I’m good.

Thanks for the gift.

I am sorry that we could not send one this year. We have been struggling financially. I will say your gift brought tears to our eyes especially after a rough week.

I feel the same about my own personal family, but when it involves the SO's I am completely different (and such is the case for this).

as with respect and shows of affection (hugs and kisses vs handshakes), people only deserve what they earn through reciprocation.

if they cant be bothered to give then they dont deserve to get gifts since they have done nothing to earn your affection. just being related through marriage or birth does not obligate you to give.

a card is all that is required for anyone who doesnt give you gifts in return, especially if its not due to some financial reasons.

mom has been sending christmas cards to some 20 relatives every year and i finally convinced her to just limit it to those who send cards to her. there is no point to put yourself out to those who are too selfish to even bother to make such a small effort

Sounds like you don't fully understand the concept of giving either.

and it sounds like you don't fully understand the concept of being a selfish ingrate who cant be bothered to send a thank you card to someone for the gift they gave you

you sound like a very selfish "i want" kind of person

If adults, never give presents, only cards.

Um, no.

Giving is selfless and you should give expecting nothing in return. As I said, you don't understand giving.

Sounds like you are the type to give something, and then want everyone to know that you gave, and then expect a big thanks and fanfare....a control issue.

True but the aspect of buying gifts for adults on Christmas because you think you have to is retarded.

Why would you get them shite?

I don’t ask for anything for Christmas. I think it’s ridiculous for people to spend their money on me.

They dont want your gifts. Your gift is just making them feel bad for not getting you and your SO(wife I hope).

I legit don't care about how much I receive. I'm happy making other people happy. I don't understand people this hung up on keeping it all equal.

so you are an "i want"

you obviously have no concept of what being a courteous considerate human being is all about. expecting someone to say thank you isnt about expecting attention or recognition or how great the giver is, it is just about letting someone know you appreciate them thinking about them.

My SO side of the family are a bunch of cheapskates, unless it's for their immediate family.

Case in point, I got a water bottle for my bike rides, from 'the family'. And it's a gay water bottle at that.

Simplify. People make Christmas too stressful. Gifts to those living in your home, cards and phone calls to others.

Clearly, you don’t grasp the concept.

expecting someone to say thank you

...see, there you go again--you "expect" something in return (yes, even a thank you)--said so yourself...like you want that power over them because you gave something.

Maybe as you age you will understand the true meaning of giving for the joy of giving, with no expectations and NOTHING in return.

Merry Christmas
