I know Christmas is about "giving"

But frick wasting my time, energy, and money on family when they don't reciprocate. I spent $55 on shipping alone for my SO's families in Oregon, Michigan, Alabama and Georgia. Never mind the gifts themselves inside said packages.
We get nothing.
I'm not made of money and I sure as shite am not wasting it on people with better incomes who have no desire to give back.
Next year they'll be getting cards only.

They are probably sending a message that they would prefer you not buy them anything so they do not feel like they need to buy you something.

We buy for immediate family only and my wife's parents because they always send us stuff.

Next year they'll probably remember this and send you nice gifts to make up for this year while you'll send them nothing. And then the vicious cycle will continue ad infinitum.
