The credit goes to the individuals who stepped up and did work, not a collective gathering site for which you found the individuals, great story

One guy contacted me from the OT. He brought 8 volunteers Monday afternoon. They cleaned up the house, cleaned out the bathrooms, got the rest of the cleanup done, and even got the AC working. I tell you what, it was such a huge change from 48 hours earlier. I could hear the difference in my folks' voices. I don't know what I would've done without that crew.

This is impressive.

Very true! Kuddos to those willing to help and put their own needs aside. Great story of humanity of strangers who gather loosely on such a forum.

my mom and stepfather are handling things a little better.

Very glad they are doing better. We all know this is hard on everyone, but I would imagine it has to be especially rough on senior citizens. Many have lived in those homes for forever so had a lifetime of memories stored there. And...being older they have health issues to worry with and can't help out as much cleaning up.

The OT has really come together to help everyone out through this I must say. Just people in general in those communities have helped each other out so much. I put a plea for some cleaning help on my fb for my parents and actually had to turn people away cause so many offered help.

You're welcome! We were glad to help. My friend that was able to get the AC working had driven in from Teneessee the day before to help. Your brother had several friends in common with myself and one of my friends. Small world.

It was a good days work. I sit behind a desk most days in a suit and tie, but I enjoy getting shite done when things like this happen.

I wish your mom and stepfather well.

I've got a single mom that works at Woman's hospital that we're rounding up a crew to help this Thursday. I've never met her, but it doesn't seem like She has any support network. The house has not been entered since the flood. I'm checking to be sure it's safe from a mold perspective and if so, we're going Thursday gut it. It's on Hartford Ave in NBR. Not a big house so hopefully we can get it done so it won't deteriate further.

We could use any help that's available Thursday.

I play golf weekly with Tigerswin2 and can vouch for his willingness to do for others. Like the saying goes, if Heaven is full when he dies, they will kick someone out! I was there yesterday and the guy that got the A/C working had flown in from Australia to help his home town. Also a great guy. True friends like Tigerswin2 and Gus (A/C guy) make the world a better place. Good Luck and Thanks for allowing us to help.

I cant physically be there to help (because of work) but if you guys need any donations to help pay for supplies or food for the people working, let me know. I'll see what I can do.

I always found this movie exchange very interesting.

Starman: Before yes. We are interested in your species.

Mark Shermin: You mean you're some kind of anthropologist? Is that what you're doing here? Just checking us out?

Starman: You are a strange species. Not like any other. And you'd be surprised how many there are. Intelligent but savage. Shall I tell you what I find beautiful about you?

[Shermin nods]

Starman: You are at your very best when things are worst.

It was heartbreaking reading the OT last week with everything that was happening back home. My hometown was flooded, my cousins in BR were flooded, it's insane.

Reading the OT was my info about how bad it was, besides reports from family/friends. I was talking to my Daddy and referencing TD about guys offering boats, advice, help, food, phone numbers, shelters, etc.

It's pretty damn cool to hear about the making of some happy endings after something so shitty.

Thanks for posting that prplhze2000!!!!

Lots of good should come to you and the other volunteers you rounded up to help old and not so old strangers try to salvage what was once home. Had to restore some lost hope. To all those who got off the couch in the heat of summer to help people they did not know when it was nothing in it for them other than a warm heart for helping those who most needed it

Thanks for the offer. We are OK on funds. All of the demo tools are in hand and we've got ample masks, trash bags and work gloves. A group of nurses from the hospital have agreed to provide food and drink for the house tomorrow.

It sounds like we've got between 15-25 people that are planning to come at some point during the day to help.
