Friend of mine killed a big one in his apartment(Houston) with a .12 gauge.

fricked up his baseboards.

Regular works. I am not exaggerating -- I had a large rat living under my kitchen cabinetry several years ago. I put a little piece of popeyes in a big rat trap one night and then turned off the lights and went up front to watch TV. Within 5 minutes the trap had snapped down on the rat's neck, so hard the trap was almost totally closed, but the rat was still able to thrash around for about 30 seconds with this big plastic contraption clamped down on its neck.

I caught a rat in the attic several years ago in one of those black plastic traps that looks like it has jaws. It was only caught by one of his back legs and was squirming around, so I had the great idea to go scare my wife who was in the shower. fricker got his leg loose and fell from the trap when I opened the shower door and starting gimping around in the shower, I had to grab him with my hands. My wife freaked the frick out. Almost got divorced over that one
