I'm sorry to see what happened in BR. I moved a month ago, no more flood insurance, $95 less/month in auto, no need for alarm, no private school. I love BR but that adds up

We just got moved in but will be looking into it asap. I'm a Katrina boy, I know better than that.

I have no flood insurance and live in Baton Rouge. I live in a zero flood zone and even today no is no chance of flooding. I don't even have a small puddle anywhere close. But then again I checked these things out while I was looking for a house. I wanted a house that had zero chance of flooding

I did same when I lived in BR, recently. My neighborhood is fine

It amazes me that people who live below sea level get surprised when it floods or don't carry insurance.

Not in flood zone and out of 100 year areas.
Still bought it.
Still bought it.

There is absolutely, positively, zero chance whatsoever, that my home would flood unless the levee breaks.
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
If it keeps on rainin', levee's goin' to break
When the levee breaks I'll have no place to stay
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan
Mean old levee taught me to weep and moan
It's got what it takes to make a mountain man leave his home
Oh, well, oh, well, oh, well
Don't it make you feel bad
When you're tryin' to find your way home
You don't know which way to go?
If you're goin' down South
They got no work to do,
If you don't know about Chicago
Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move
All last night sat on the levee and moaned
All last night sat on the levee and moaned
Thinkin' about my baby and my happy home
Going, going to Chicago...
Going to Chicago...
Sorry but I can't take you...
Going down... going down now... going down....

You're so smart, why can't everybody think like you? I've got news for you, if you live in BR, you have a chance of flooding and if you're that smart, you have an extra $300-$400/ year for piece of mind.

live in AZ...a desert....and even I would buy flood insurance.
This monsoon season we've had flash floods all over the area. Lots of rain dropped in a short amount of time. I keep seeing coverage of flooded homes on the news here....and people saying they didn't think they needed flood insurance in AZ.

Not really...a home can flood due to backed up draining and a pond overflowing. It doesn't have to be a massive widespread event. A home flood can be very isolated in certain circumstances
A pond overflowing? I hope they don't have a pool too. Both overflowing would be a catastrophic.
ETA: What happened to common sense? It doesn't seem to be so common these days.

I bought my flood insurance before Katrina. It is cheap ( not in a flood zone).
I just got the renewal in the mail the other day
You know how I know I don't need flood insurance? I don't live in a flood zone. I live in Broussard, where it must have rained over 10 inches today, and is currently dumping. I don't have even a puddle of standing water on my property (although the pool is completely full!)

If the Mortgage Company doesn't require it, there is a pretty good chance that you don't need it.

I think I may get it after this. And not even bc I'm nervous about today's events. This seems to be as bad as its ever been and I don't have any standing water in my yard at all. Streets are totally dry. I'm high and dry (Webb Park are of BR). My line of thinking was if I ever do flood then BR as a whole is all underwater. But it's too cheap to pass up. And just bc everyone else is underwater doesn't mean I want to be in that number on the uninsured side. As bad as it was today, whose to say it can't happen again and maybe even be a little worse. People prob said same thing in 83 and here we are again right. Yeah I'm def getting it. Just talked myself into it as I type this.
...but if you don't see water in an event like this, you likely never will;
Once the water is over the banks of the rivers, bayous, ditches, etc., every additional inch the water goes higher, it has exponentially more area to distribute horizontally. To get to my doorstep (and, it sounds like yours), half of Texas, and all of the gulf coast states would have to be underwater.
But give somebody $400/year, if you like. Oh, by the way, can I underwrite you?

I would say if you're on the Highland Ridge, you have 0.00001% chance of flooding. It would have to be the apocalypse. I'd take that risk, I don't care how cheap the insurance is...

People are stupid. If my house gets water in it, South Louisiana is fricked. That being said, I have Hurricane insurance, I'm not stupid.

I thought a the Admins lived together in a coop somewhere with webcams up and were available to view/chat with TD Platinum Members like the TV show Big Brother.
