In my mind, Al was created to represent what real life could be like with a man stuck in a marriage with 2 children and a dead end job. He was a character that people could look to and say at least my life is not as bad as Al’s life. Add that with a little off color humor, fat jokes, sex jokes, red headed wife, a yuppie neighbor that thinks too much of themselves, and a dog.
You a have a comedy that goes for 11 seasons and helps build a new network.

Archie wasn’t racist out of hate; in his realm his beliefs were justified.
A lot of people were (are) like Archie.
It always pissed me off that he was usually made out to be a buffoon.
His son in law (despite feeding him and his daughter) was completely incapable of trying to understand why Archie was the way he was.
He had no respect for Archie.
That chapped my arse.

Jesus I’m getting old, but still remember watching “All in the Family” every Sunday night followed by “The Jefferson’s” who of course were Archie’s “colored” neighbors, hence the spinoff...Norman Lear was a genius.
Btw your both fricking wrong Baby Boomers were born of the baby boom following G.I.’s returning home from WWII & laying pipe non-stop for the next couple of years, think 1945-1950. Boomers like my parents are all in their 70’s so if you’re gonna be cute at least have a little respect & try not to show your ignorance, pretty please w/ sugar on top.
