I may be wrong but I believe there are 3 categories that are viewed as independent of each other:

Sex: born with penis or vagina
Gender: male to female with everything in between (betas, alphas, baws, etc.)
Sexual Preference: Men, women, both, neither (gay, straight, bi)

Sex changes are to have your outer appearance (penis/vagina) match your inner identity (male/female).

Maybe gender fluidity is talking about sexual preference? As in sometimes only like guys or only like girls???

Most people that I have come across that question gender are just unsure then eventually realize they are male or female. I have never heard of a man changing his identity to female and back and forth. It is usually a uncertainty followed by a definitive change.

I think I'm fairly liberal and non-judgemental so maybe it's just a lack of education. I have no issues with gay marriage, adoption by gay couples, or surgical correction of those that may be born with both sets of sexual organs.

Quit reading after that....no credibility!

it's indiscriminate sexual attraction

I don't think it has anything to do with who they are attracted to. That's why I don't get why lesbians and gays let them these people into their organizations and causes. I can only assume it is to try to completely tear down any semblance of there even being any normal. If there's no normal, then there will be no abnormal.

Didn't they teach you any Biology where you grew up?

I thought it was pretty common knowledge among the masses that certain amphibians change their physical gender through hormone secretions.....that wither away the old gender organs and cause growth of the new. (this is an evolutionary tool that is done in times when there are too many of one gender)

The change in attraction to the new gender, or fluidity, is also hormonally achieved and is biologically easy compared to the physical change.

Can you extrapolate out to understand how this happens in some instances among humans (and probably all animal species too)? Your dog may be gender fluid.....better keep an eye on it.

In the future, science will come up with a serum that you can be dosed with so as to change your sexual attraction preference. You can experiment with it on weekends and then go back to your old self when in the office!!! (please don't use it if you look like Woody Harrelson in drag!)

I read an explanation once that made more sense than any other I've ever heard.. The idea is that your sex is a biological assignment but your gender is a societal assignment. In this theory, your gender can be fluid because you don't identify with what society has assigned to you just because of your sex. So you have the biology of a man, for example, but the gender of a woman, more or less.

It's all very unrelateable to the general population so naturally there's a giant stigma.

You seem reasonable, I have a question for you.

Sorry I wasn't around to continue the dialogue. I think my liberal-conservative ideology has definitely changed over the years (I'm 41) and I'm definitely not a liberal crying when opinions differ from mine. My ideology is probably fluid because I think we need to have mass executions of those on death row but I also have no problem/issue with gay marriage. For me, my ideology is to let my fellow human live how he/she chooses so long as it doesn't hurt another.

Maybe, my initial question was off in terms of what I wanted to understand. So gender fluidity makes sense in that gender is societally assigned and this person can be what gender they want - just like i can dress up on halloween and be whatever I want outwardly.

I don't understand how one is born male/penis and "decides" they want to be a female and goes though gender change and also sex change procedures. Is that a chemical issue? Are they tested and found to have more estrogen, than testosterone? Or is it a case that they want to change gender, then change sex to match their gender? I liken it to wanting to be spiderman and dressing up like him, then I will have a 'web throwing mechanism" surgically inserted under my skin on my wrist/hand.

Don't forget about the Pangenders, like Miley. Not even sure what that is honestly, can't keep up with all of these made up categories.
