Why would you lose weight just from giving up Diet Coke? Is it the couple mgs of sodium?

Daily diet soft drink consumption was associated with several vascular risk factors and with an increased risk for vascular events.

From that link:

One study (Northern Manhattan Study) was able to control a fair bit of variables and found a weak correlation between diet soda and vascular events, but these differences disappeared when 'pre-existing health conditions' were considered.

You wouldn't...diet coke has zero calories. In order to lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. There's a good chance that his conscious decision to give up soft drinks has led to other health conscious decisions that account for his weight loss.

There has been some evidence that chemical sweeteners are treated much the same that sugar is in the body. If that is indeed true, a habitual diet soft drink consumer could experience high insulin levels

Hmmm that seems highly unlikely. I can drink a 2 liter of diet coke and it would have zero effect on my blood sugar. However, if someone accidentally gives me a coke at a restaurant my blood sugar goes up above 250

I've been wanting to do this too. Waiting for a holiday to come up when I have a string of days in a row off, so I can just sleep through it

I don't think anyone is foolish enough to believe that anything happens in a vacuum. The link I provided shows an association with negative health effects (including weight gain). That association could be accounted for by a variety of causal mechanisms. The point is, though, that it isn't hard to believe that quitting diet soda intake aids in weight loss.

Why not drink black coffee? Grown men have been doing it for thousands of years.

Coffee also has pretty awesome health benefits. I just wish I didn't crave it at all hours of the day .

Dark Italian roast all day. Black. I have issues. Good thing is it is basically no calories, and tons of antioxidants.

One thing that I have noticed is that my face feels a lot tighter... Like it is getting skinny and this is only a little over a week into it and the bags under my eyes have completely vanished.

As I look back... my god I drank a shite ton of Diet Coke everyday for the past several years and never thought about it. The terrible headache I had for 3 straight days meany my body was in shock not having the Diet Coke ingredients in my system

Quiting Diet Coke is my last hurdle. Got my shite together a little more than a year ago and started running and working out, managed to lose 35lbs so far. Improved my diet tremendously along the way. But them damn Diet Cokes I just havent been able to kick!

I freaking HATE tea though! The smell and taste is just gross to me!! I drink 1-2 during work day and 1-2 in evening! I crave one in the am but refuse to drink one before lunch!

Coffee is gross.

And increases your blood pressure (unless you are drinking decaf, which is ok).

Avoid it.
