I don't know how regular folk get by with multiple kids. The cost is absurd.

Just this past month, we have had my son break his arm. Have dental surgery. New kids clothes for summer. Kids clothes for summer cause they don't fit nothing. Buy new shoes. Daycare cost. This doesn't include the cost of keeping them fed.

$2700 out or pocket cost for surgery/arm.
$2400 cost for dental caps.
$600 in other doctor visits for all kids.
$100 for kids shoes.
$700 for kids clothes and miscellaneous crap.
$2900 Daycare cost

$9,400 for April and May for these two kids.

I think this is why we have declining birth rates. I am just saying.

It used to be a good ROI back in the day when you could put them in the fields.

If your kid is in daycare, how are their baby teeth that jacked up to need that much work?

Wait till high school…

About to throw down $15,000 for a travel ball World Series. That’s on top of the $350 for a new heart of the hide.

Yeah that’s when you tell your son he’s not worth it. He’ll understand.

I really don't know how people do it these days. Decent folk seemed priced out of the kid market.

Yep- $100/month for pretty much ever. Dentist office, doctor visits, braces, counselors,

And my super awesome insurance is ‘only’ $1300/month. I never seriously considered being uninsured until a few months ago, but knowing a broken arm or appendectomy would cost tens of thousands of dollars in self pay, I bit the bullet and got the shitty insurance.

My son takes an inhaler steroid that they think has contributed to cavities, which they have not warned us about. He is 3. I brush his teeth twice a day. Apparently you either have hard porcelain teeth or very permeable teeth. His is are not the hard kind. Young kids dont have as much enamel on their teeth.

Do you pay $18k per year for daycare?

How much does daycare contribute to Dr visits?

You model your life around the kids. Cut out unnecessary expenses, sacrifice your own wants for the good of the kids, plan your fun and vacations around family time, etc

shite like streaming services, new devices every year, random Amazon purchase, eating out, etc is not necessary and are easy things to cut out.

$15,600 now. More when my 3rd is born. Probably $20K a year. Is what it is.

We experienced similar but as my late father-in-law told me 'your dollar is not the dollar I had at your age'

Plus, our appetites have gotten enlarged

We have two. Travel hockey alone costs us about $20k a year for one. The other isn’t interested in sports tho, thank God. He just wants to join the military after HS and go make a life for himself. So anyway, I’m guessing over $100k a year with everything between the two of them

It’s ridiculous. I raised 4 kids. 3 G, 1B and youngest is 19. Put them all through private school, cars, cell phones, braces, sports and activities… my oldest girl got married 3 weeks ago which was u sanely expensive. And I have a wife that spends money so fast it’s like she’s going for the Olympic gold medal in pissing money away. I’ll give you a guess how much money I have now. I’ll be the guy delivering your next pizza or saying welcome to Wal Mart when I’m 70.

I would have done things A LOT differently if I had known then what I know now.

Who am I kidding? I won’t make it to 70.

It is a well known principle of demography and economics that when you urbanize, children become expenses instead of labor assets on the farm.

This leads to a strong decrease in childbearing, when kids are highlighted as expenses. Why should the American experience with it be any different?
