I'm so sorry for your loss. For those who never had a pet will never understand the love we have for them

Very true. A lot of people might not know that hops are also poisonous to dogs. A friend of mine was brewing one day and spilled some hop pellets on the floor. His dog ate some and next thing you know they're at the emergency vet clinic with the dog in respiratory distress. They saved the dog but it was pretty touch and go for a while.

OP - very, very sorry about your girl.

Thank you all for your sentiments. We loved that dog as if it were our child and I feel sorry for people who have never enjoyed the love a good pet can bring you.

There's no reason to cherish or mourn the loss of mine over anyone else's because with the joy comes the inevitable loss and pain, it's part of the deal. I just hope a little awareness might prevent someone else from having their joy part of the deal unnecessarily shortened.

The pain of putting a dog (or any pet that you love) down is why I'm hesitant to get another one.
