Just got done replacing my fence. It was 58 panels for the whole thing. One neighbor didn't pay anything. He got the ugly side. Backyard neighbor got stiffed by 2 of the 3 neighbors so his comment to me was if I halfed it with him he would let me have the pretty side. I didn't argue. I would have paid half either way but it looks better without the rails facing my side. Third neighbor paid half also and he let me have the pretty side. We went with 4 rails instead of three. Didn't want to make it too difficult on fence hoppers.

replaced mine a couple of years ago, was going to do it no matter what, next door neighbor offered(before I got to his side,) to split my half and pay me if I'd replace the rest of his(he asked the guy behind both of us if he'd chip in, he was a dick and got the ugly side,) I think he thought I was using a contractor,
as I was doing his, his neighbor asked if I'd do theirs, that went on until I'd replaced almost every fence on the block, I ended up hiring two guys and taught them how to build the fence that I was putting up and just bought material and supervised, no one even asked how much before I started, they just paid what I asked, made a small bundle This post was edited on 12/3/19 at 8:37 am

Not a smart thing to do. Always put the finished side facing out. The way you built your fence, gives a thief a built in ladder to clime over your fence.

You've made it easier for culcha to hop your fence though.
It's almost like fences don't have gates that open and close to walk through intsead of hopping the "ugly side" of the fence.

If there is no neighbor behind your or even to the side, then this matters. Otherwise, I don't see how it does.
