You live in BR then worry about BR not an area where you do not reside, have ability to vote, or work in.
Make BR a better place should be your goal.
Stop worrying about an area where you do not reside or work in.

A group of people want the chance to improve their area and can now vote on it.
This is their choice and only their choice.

Now let’s get back to someone posting the COA President gifs. Everyone likes that except Gravey.

Maybe if you lived here, you’d know the no man’s land already exists, and is accelerating rapidly under the current regime of our low IQ racist mayor. I can’t wait to get out of this dump. St. George might be the only thing that helps in the interim.

I gave you an up-vote because your post shows forethought and considers unintended consequences. (The OT is probably not the most fertile ground for such traits, but it is always welcome to see it). But, in the long run, I don't totally agree with you .

For one, I think people always will and always should have the right to look out for their children. This includes having them in safe and effective schools.

For another, if this provides people with the ability to send their children to (quality) public schools, that has to be a good think in the long run. I think Ascension Parish has the top rated school district in the state. People will send their kids to public schools if they are well run.

For a third, I think short term/long term is not a complete way of looking at things. As others have said, I think things in BR are now are already at or near what you consider the long term consequences. If St. George goes through, things may get worse in BR in the medium term. But in the long run, the people in BR will do what is in their own best interest and improve things.

History is replete with examples of groups who have been written off by other groups only to come into their own. The Romans called the Germanic people barbarians, the English considered the Scottish lesser people, the Mongols looked down on just about everybody. Things don't stay static.

What is funny about the St. George battle is that the SJW morons are greedy little fricks who spend their days dishing out their demands to be paid by someone else. The St. George people follow the law (twice), get their vote on the ballot, and the Baton Rouge SJWs lose their shite and demand that they not be allowed to have the right to decide their own future.

It's all "me, me, me" and when the other side makes a reasonable request through the accepted legal process, they immediately start shrieking.

Because it's not your money, it's their money.

Property values going up because of St George having an ISD will help keep the riff raff out.

This is not at all surprising.

I don't like the St. George idea, but I don't live in BR and don't have a vote. I'm conservative. But I spend a lot of time thinking about what the world will look like 10, 20, 50 years down the line.

The St. Georgers appear to be saying, We're gonna draw a line and keep what's ours, and leave all "the others" to their own devices.

What happens when conditions on the other side deteriorate to such an extent... higher crime, more drug abuse, shittier schools.... that it becomes a no-mans land and starts to bleed out into other communities? You St. George folks just gonna build a wall and hire more police to keep the riff raff out?

Is segregation and isolation a good long term strategy for a community? I don't see where it leads anywhere good. Or maybe you don't care what happens to everyone else as long as you get yours.

Just a few peyote-induced thoughts from last night.

Eh, the people who do well for themselves should do everything in their power to separate themselves and their families from those who don't.

And it is not there responsibility to fix the communities that don't do well.

Wrong!

Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!

Dude you have no frikkin clue of the creeping culcha of BR is about. The movement is about preserving what people have worked all their lives for. People are sick and tired of putting into a system and watching professional deadbeats and thugs siphon away everything in the name of diversity and inclusion. Maybe you should have done a little more homework.

Have a downvote for your lazy research and virtuous bleeding heart.

If you have a rich part of town and a poor part of town are you saying that only the rich people should have their roads paved nicely? Do you just let blight rot in the poor area because they don't contribute as much?

If the money was being used in the poor parts of town to pave roads and fix blight, perhaps you can get some people to agree to getting "less than their fair share" in exchange for the greater good of helping the poor areas.

But can you look at the poor areas of EBR and think, even for a second, that's where the money is going?

Most humans are generally wired to help others. But when you take money away from them and piss it away, they are going to want it back.

I tend to believe that people have the right to self determine whom they associate with.

That means they can choose their own government ans its jurisdiction.

Exactly, and the Magnet parents are the worst. They all boo-hoo that their precious little geniuses will be displaced from their award-winning schools, but don't give two shits about the other kids in their area who are stuck in failing schools.

This.

NBR gets more money every year, yet it is only getting worse. It's time the St. George residents get what they pay for every year.

Both Central and Zachary saw drastic improvements to their school systems when they moved from under the control of the East Baton Rouge School System.

And they had a school large enough for their student population. St. George has 1 high school which would see a huge influx of students and people are expecting to to magically become a great high school. I would be pissed if my kid were at BRHS and then suddenly they have to start going to F'ing Woodlawn.
