Our first home was 1200 sq ft and we had a 2.5 ton unit. That thing would not keep up during the summer. Called a company to come out and they said unit was too small for our house. Put a 4 ton, cost us $4k at the time and had no issues after.

We had a 2.5 ton in our first house which was about 1400 Sq ft. New construction. Good luck getting that place below about 79-80 on a day like today.

Bell is the worst!!! I have same kind of house but it's 2400 sqft and 2 story, and after 1st month there was enough water coming off the duck work in attic to fill a swimming pool! Both Builder and Bell were not helpful at all!!!!The POS 3.5 ton unit zone system they put on was terrible not nearly enough for 2400 sqft! I had a very reputable local company owner is a friend of the family. He pulled out everything done by builder and bell, put in a 5 ton unit and now it works great! Don't buy any house over 2400 sqft with anything less than a 5 ton!!!

Yeah sorry not insurance just home warranty Those home warranty companies will get your AC up and running in 60-90 days

Most are a waste of money. Much of the same. A good friend died of cancer. His wife called, said her A/C was fixing to going out. I said, they work or they don’t. She had been paying about $25/ month for them to check the unit, simple maintenance. I sent my friend to check it, nothing wrong. I told her to cancel that A/C company. This was about 4 years ago, it’s still running. Oh, I told her I could replace it for half of what they wanted to charge for a replacement. When she told me her quote. I thought, them SOB’s. You better be careful out there folks.

Fuse or Breaker? If it’s a breaker, might want to change to breaker, it has become weak, not holding to the right amps.

This past spring I had all the windows in my house replaced with energy efficient windows. I also had all of the fiberglass insulation in the attic removed and had spray foam insulation put in. I'm looking to cut the electric bill down some and I'll be finding out soon about that.

I don't know what you trying to cool but I just had a 3.5 ton Goodman 14.2 SEER put in for $8500. That includes a couple new ducts, inside and outside unit. He's coming back in the fall to change out the rest of my ducts.

You found a supply house that sold to you, without an account ? Or a friend that “ got it for you ? “

You have a nitrogen cylinder, torches, vacuum pump ? You kept the old tear out units and plenums hidden so Code Enforcement wouldn’t know a change out was going on ?

When you registered the warranty to get the 10 years, i guess you had a buddy contractor info to put in the contractor info blanks, and that the equipment with serial #’s is shown purchased under his account ?

You can’t even cheat any more with 4 plex rentals. Them warranty girls pull up goggle earth and see that a 4 plex is just that, so it voids the 10 years to 5 years because it is not single family residence.

Dude. Those have to be the highest SEER Tranes or American Standard.

We completed a home reno in March with ACs (2) coming in at 18k (Carrier).

You are paying way too much.

And watch out for home warranty. They won’t spring for a new plenum alot of times. So unless you do, those doing the work, i have seen horrible “ make fit” jobs with pieces of duct board and a whole bucket of paint on mastic.

Oh. One key thing: what brand is the installer truly familiar with.

I don’t care if it is a trane or AS, if they are not dialed into those setups, they may not work properly.

Our installer began his career in the Carrier factory. That’s all he ever installed. His work is flawless.

My house is surrounded by old mature live oak trees. My house is a restored 130 year old acadian home. My two central units are actually being efficient right now.

Just got a new (by which I mean 40+ years old) house with an AC that can’t keep up with all the added rooms. First electric bill came in almost $500

Was considering upgrading the AC, but I just saw that number and shitted blood.

Portable units for the win this summer.

You could put a 12,000 BTU unit in every room and replace them regularly for that, if you’re willing to have window units.
