we were quoted $26k, $18k,$12k and $9,600. We went low.
And it works great.
That's a hell of a spread.
I think it's to the point where names mean less and less. It seems most have cheapened their brand to the point they are just cashing in on name recognition. I know of several people that went with the "lesser brands" and they run fine. Even if they last a shorter time until replacement you come out ahead.

Oh hell no. I hope you at least have a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in check.
No
I would have to sleep in the bathtub full of cool water.

I recommend 2 stage. 5 speed inverters are nice, but remember after 10 years, assuming you followed thru with on line registration, parts such as 1800 dollar compressors , 900 dollar boards, 700
Dollar ecm motors, are all on you, + Labor and misc truck items.

If you have raggety flex ducts, long lengths, too many wyes or pressure boxes, consider a simple brand AC system, installed right, and put the extra money in proper duct work

You can save by using the 2nd tier
Carrier = bryant
Trane = Amer Stnd.
Rheem = Ruud
A 2 stage Ruud system properly installed with correct ductwork, should be a good spend of your money.

Curious too. Never heard of that (other than the warranty of course) but that is a warranty, not insurance.
Home warranties are essentially insurance. You pay monthly and they cover a certain set of losses.

Yeah sorry not insurance just home warranty
Those home warranty companies will get your AC up and running in 60-90 days

Ours is new. And massive. Still can’t get it to 71 in the house. It’s just not happening. 74 is it. So we turned it up to 74.
Goes to show how much new stuff sucks.
My 30 year old unit keeps my house at 65 and the house was built in 1940 so it’s not insulated that good. Thing sounds like a wind tunnel when it kicks on it blows so much air, if you stand in front of a vent you’ll go numb. Hell the thermostats still have mercury switches in them.
I’m gonna cry when it gives up the ghost and I gotta pay for a new shittier system

Central A/C units are only supposed to keep your home 20 degrees cooler than the temperature outside, more if you have a bigger unit. So, if it's 98 outside and your home is set to 75 and it's constantly running and you're cool, it's doing its job. I put a portable in the living room and it's ice cold in there.

We were given a home warranty when we purchased our home last year. Had a refrigerant leak on one a/c and a gas furnace die. Both issues were resolved the following day after failure. Was shocked at how well the warranty company handled the claims.

Get Japanese brands they’re cheaper and good quality

Had a guy look at my system a couple of years ago and he said that it's working fine... He said that a new system would run me about $6000 for a 4 ton.. He would have to replace the outside unit and all the AC stuff in the attic minus the duct work... All because of the new freon the libs wanted... How many times have they changed their minds about the type of freon? I am sure that quote has gone up a couple thousand by now...

Y’all convinced me. I’m just gonna put a window unit in every room instead of paying 28k
