Had a good buddy die in a car crash on that stretch of 10. It’s the worst.

At least it's because they're working on widening them. More than Lousiana can say. I-12 needs to be 6 lanes it's whole 86 miles.

I did the same drive this weekend from far west of Houston through Baton Rouge. It was a god damned shite show.

They never finished it.

But orange-Beaumont is sort of the armpit of Texas. And likely treated that way by the state.

Fact is, the entire stretch from orange to SA needed widening. It’s a massive job.

My main issue with the orange is the extremely suspect construction sequencing and Traffic Control Plans (TCPs). They are hazardous as Hell. The WB section just past the welcome center right after you enter TX is straight up dangerous as a MF. I cannot fathom WTH they allowed the contractor to put it in as it is. I almost lost my boat coming home after a Hackberry run.

It wasn’t/isn’t just adding lanes in each direction, rather in large sections it has been a complete rebuild.

I know all the construction in TX is a bummer but they are proactive and deal with more traffic (tearing up roads) than you can fathom.

I’ll also be thrilled with the Gulf Freeway is complete. I see a light at the end of the tunnel finally!!!!

Almost all of I-10 from the state-line to HWY 71 in Columbus is a fricking shite show. It's pathetic how long those areas have been under construction.

I-10 is only like that from the LA weigh station (where night clubs catering to Texans when there was no liquor by the drink in TX once stood) through Orange then it is off to the races at 75 MPH posted limit

It’s been a while since I drove it at peak hours, but that long, straight, boring section between Turtle Bayou and Winne isn’t too bad.

Similar to the widened portions of I-12 in Louisiana. It would be a shite show if it was only 4 lanes though.

I think 10/12 need to be a minimum of 6 lanes between Houston and the Florida line. Some areas, like Baton Rouge and the north shore need to be 8 lanes wide with additional auxiliary lanes between exits.

What's the best way to get to Waco from BR? Google has a North of Houston route, Beaumont to Cleveland , 105 , is that 4 lane? Then catch I-45 to Huntsville.
Or go right through Houston catch 290 , Hwy 6 to College Station, then up to Waco?

West bound traffic going through Orange and east bound traffic on the west side of Beaumont right now is a crap shoot. I passed through there last month and they had both west bound lanes at Orange actually diverted to the service road just past the Orange welcome center. It was terrible.

Headed from Houston back to LA a couple of weeks ago, there was an accident on 10 eastbound in Orange where the road is two narrow lanes, barriers on both sides, no shoulder.

What was the accident you say?

A baw towing a boat on a trailer, his trailer became unattached somehow.

But at least in that stretch, they are working and trying to add lanes (ever so slowly). Whereas in LA, they are making no attempt to fix the "new bridge" traffic meanwhile they are adding unnecessary extra lanes from Lafayette to the basin.

Get off and take Highway 12 across the state line then down and get on I-10 right before Vidor. It’s worth it.

Highway 190 to I-45 at Huntsville. North to Highway 164 over to Highway 6 into Waco.

Don’t mess with I-10 at all IMO. You’d avoid BR, LC, SETX and Houston area.

oh yea forgot about that but people are still flying down it like I have done for the last number of times I drove it. It's better than the dumb drivers on I-10 between Gonzales and Baton Rouge

I drove that stretch twice in the past month or so, for the first time in a few years. Holy shite. It feels like a real-life version of Mario Kart.

LA DOTD catches a lot of shite for their lack of progress on major projects, and most of it is well-deserved. But that stretch of I-10 has been under construction for the entire 10 years or so that I’ve been making that drive. And it is a complete clusterfrick in its current state. I see some posters saying it’s actually gotten better, which is terrifying.

It’s not a great look when a widening project takes 15 years. It’s also not a great look when a widening project creates a stretch of interstate that feels dangerous as shite to drive on. But both? Come on, man. Get your shite together TXDOT. You’re supposed to be good at this.
