Hurt ribs - and reason to go to Dr?

Is there any reason to go to Dr if you have hurt ribs or rib cartilage?
Seems like all they'll do is give pain medicine and tell to rest.

I’m sitting at urgent care now with what I think is a broken rib. I’m miserable, hurts to move, breath you name it. They probably can’t do anything but hopefully they can give me something for the pain.

If you're having trouble breathing it probably isn't a bad idea. Sometimes people with rib injuries won't breath deeply or cough due to the pain, and that can lead to pneumonia.

I had that same injury about a year ago. Nothing really to be done except rest. It's a pain that will linger with you for a couple of months unfortunately.

I had hurt ribs recently. Hurt to laugh, cough, sneeze, hiccup, or move in any way. Hurt lay down and sleep.
Doctors would only give me a few Tylenol 3.

It hurts like hell and done it several times. one thing to watch out for is that broken ribs occasionally get inflamed and an infection under the cellophane like lining of the ribs. It wont happen for a few weeks if it occurs but it will feel like Aliens coming out your chest.
