Probably the same people who go park their car in flood vulnerable areas to scam insurance companies or find a way to get some FEMA money. I'll bet Mitch wants it to hit NO so he can dig his hand in that FEMA money.

Coming up on the east side too. Nate running hard at hurricane status.
can you please explain what the convective burst indicates?

It always baffles me why people would want a monster hurricane on top of them.

Thanks to ndg at stormcastforums for the image I'm stealing. Fresh microwave pass!
Still open on the NE but might be working on that with latest convective blowup.

Large storms around the center. They often indicate strengthening.

Convection drives the hurricane heat engine. Seeing bursts of big convection tend to indicate strengthening, especially in the generally favorable environment.

Storm Surge Warning and Hurricane Watch here in Destin. I live on the beach. Should I move inland or Hunker down?
Look for a blue shed.

With how impressive the storm looks now, I'd be surprised if it isn't a hurricane by tonight. Might be time to start upping those wind speed projections at landfall. Strong Cat 1/Weak Cat 2 not out of the question.
It's hard to say. The Euro showed some minimal strengthening this afternoon and evening but then goes kind of steady state once moving into the Gulf. Yesterday I posted about the possibility of some dry air impacting the system as it moves north and that is still showing up in the models today. 12z Euro from today:
18z GFS image that I posted yesterday:
The other possibility is that the system is just moving too fast to really wrap up. However, the main concern with the fast movement was that it wouldn't be able to establish the western portion of the core and currently the western portion is the most established.

I've been thinking about that too. Levi mentioned the storm would have a pretty solid east side but wrapping up would be difficult. So far today, it's been the opposite.

I noticed on all the model runs that at landfall everything was to the east of the center. Is that due to what youre talking about or would that be caused by the sheer that's going to push it racing off to the east about the time it makes landfall

I think the reason for that re: tornados is because those are generally a surprise and can pop up anywhere and unexpectedly.

Sucking in continental air prevented East SE side from developing. Should close off en eyewall tonight...then all bets are off.

What time do y’all think MSY will close?

I'm at my house in Miramar. Stop being a pussy. You know better. Even a Cat 2 won't do much damage here unless you have a home pre 97 home.

I live in Miramar Beach aswell. I'm not worried, just felt like asking. lol

I guessing that this is like a Katrina will devastate New Orleans again from the looks of it and the reports we are getting? So Mandatory evacuation being called?
