The convection is looking good around the core at this point. I wouldn't be surprised to see Maria make a run at a strong 3 or even a category 4 at this point.

My friend in San Juan is up on the 2nd floor now, water is still rising on the first floor.

That's the fear tonight.

No radar to confirm, but the satellite reads like a lot of rain still falling and thus water rising into the night. Good luck to them.

Makes sense the windfield would have expanded greatly after the PR interaction. Going to take her some time to reorganize but she'll likely be big with lower pressure than the max winds would suggest going forward.

Energy spread out.

Thanks for asking, things still suck but it's a little better everyday. Got all our demo done on our place this last Sunday, nothing but dirt now to rebuild on. In laws are still dealing with insurance companies, but I think most of the stuff is ironed out now so are going down to start gutting their place this weekend. Most all the area has electricity and water now so we stay with friends on Saturday nights when down now which saves 5 hours of driving per weekend. Driving back 2.5 hours after working all day smelling like a couple of wet goats got old pretty quick lol. State and Local response has been remarkable given the task imo, things will continue to improve at a slower pace now I'm sure and it will take years for a full recovery but we'll get there. Have a great evening.

Sorry for not keeping up but there was a lot going on. I thought your in-laws lost the boathouse but that their home was ok. Did their home sustain damage also? Wasn't it on stilts?

Notice the gap between peak flight level winds in the upper left hand graph:

If that area clears out, Maria would have an eye that is nearly 80 miles across.

That's a lot of ocean to be sucking up that hole.

To reiterate, maximum winds on the last pass were just confirmed via dropsonde. They were 41 miles to the NW of the actual low pressure center fix.

I didn't mean it the way many took it. It can't be denied that PR is a social program ridden bankrupt nation that refuses to curtail handouts to be more fiscally responsible.

Just not fun cleaning up the mess of those that invest more in social programs than their own infrastructure, that's all.

I feel for the people of PR.
