re: Hurricane Irma - Spinning Down

The Cuba swipe tonight paid big dividends. Irma was about to explode at about 6-7 pm central. Surface winds jumped to 165 mph on recon and the huge blast of convection had just started. Without that, it's likely sitting at 915-910 here blowing 170 mph and pointing toward a very bad outcome.

Miami may be spared by just a few miles.

not really. Its gona spend more time over very warm water and still will be a cat 5 at landfall.

Jena was the site of one of Napoleon's battles. Thats why the name crops up here and there.

The difference is time. We'd have a deeper stronger storm with more time over open water to work with.
Irma will now have to spend some of that warm water energy reorganizing instead of just taking all that heat to blow out harder.

Worst case scenario, sure. There may be reason for optimism, though. Last I saw, pressure was trending positively and Irma doesn't look quite as pretty on radar after running the coast.

It should be mentioned just how bad of a path the Euro cut out. More time over water to hit painfully close to Tampa. Nobody wants to see a Tampacane.

Cape Coral direct hit for Euro...

Do you think the Northern jog is still as likely? What's preventing it from continuing W off of Cuba?

This thread becomes great again once all the retards go to sleep or get banned.

I've seen about 5 shitposts appear and then disappear in the last hour or so... admins doing work.

Did I miss anything important tonight since I only slept two hours

Rummy's playing Whack-a-Troll.

Even minor jokes are being deleted. Rummy must have been pissed about the mess he found in this thread earlier.

I hope the admins go easy once Jeff's periscope goes live.

Not really. Cone has been fairly accurate. We've basically just been watching a wobble as Irma moves WNW up the Cuban coastline.

Jeff's peri should get its own thrown, imo. So much goes on and the threads fly. Would suck to jam up this thread with Jeff watchers instead of Irma watchers.

I'd like to thank the people who post informative information to us on the OT Lounge. You guys help us understand what's going on and why.
Kudos to y'all!

So this website is really interesting:
LINK
The visible loop over the Bahamas is timelagged but shows the beginning of what Cuba did to the structure of Irma.
ETA: from the same website
Might be good news for the next update.
