Back in west palm from Pensacola. Just did a marathon session of 90 mph on open highway. Please don't tell me this bitchx is coninneast again

Jeff discussion should be on its own thread. As fun as it was, and it was a ton of fun, the Jeff discussion completely overwhelmed and derailed the Harvey thread during the entire immediate pre landfall and landfall period.

Well... the good news is, you're much better off in West Palm now than you were 6 hours ago.

Which is why we came all the way back. Figured it be a hell of a lot easier in open road than after this thing hit somewhere between Pensacola and here. Don't really care about non catastrophic wind or rain. House I'm at is in hospital power grid so should be good to go.

After looking at the GoM wind vectors, I'm even more confused as to what inevitably pushes Irma N from the Westward trend. I wish someone more knowledgeable than myself could explain this to me.

Irma goes a little further west and weakens a little...most of Florida says "eh, not so bad" and decides to sit the next one out. Then Jose or Lee comes in and wrecks shite.

Jose is just going to twirl in the Atlantic

It's all about the trough and not wind vectors.

its clearly started to take a WNW track over the past few hours. Not sure why the last update didn't show that. I guess with the wobble earlier to WSW it evened out to not be enough to show the northward component.

For those still awake, here is why I think we could see further westward movement before the ridge moves it north:

She's staying. I think part of her concern about gas was being up the road and not being able to find gas. I don't think lack of fuel was keeping her from leaving. She seemed like she didn't want to deal with the hassle. She's got a brand new, up to Florida Hurricane code home. She's been through power outages before and doesn't think there's a flooding threat at her residence. She's measuring her neighbor's trees to calculate their impact area. But she doesn't want to sit in traffic for 15 hours. I get it. Evacuating is a pain in the arse and it's not cheap. After you arrive at wherever you evacuate to, all you can do is worry. There's the anxiety of not knowing what is happening to your home and wondering when the local petty dictator will "open" his municipality (I'm talking to you, Aaron Broussard! You bald headed prick!) to allow you to return to your home. Then you get to sit in even more traffic trying to return. frick that. Gustav hit on a Monday (I think). Broussard "opened" Jefferson Parish Thursday evening. My ex got home Friday a.m. She had been stuck in BR for 4+ days in a large, but crowded house. I had repaired a blown down fence, cleaned up our yard and the yards of an elderly neighbor and a cop working about 16 hours a day. I was the a-hole for not going to Baton Rouge with her.
Roach, I'm going to buy you a beer someday.
It's 3:30 and I can't sleep. Feel like I am facing down the Apocalypse. That may be bit dramatic, but I have been tracking this thing for what feels like an eternity. Will keep posting for as long as I can during landfall. Which I guess is today and in to Sunday.
I don't have a blue shed, sorry guys.

Stay safe. This irma saga has been draining on us all here in florida. Try to rest.
Prayers for everyone in the path.

This is the longest I've ever sat waiting for a storm. The track keeps edging farther and farther west, can't help but be concerned. That said, we're in a 35' flood zone (essentially 500-year flood max) and are within immediate walking distance of an even safer location. Lots of supples, strong building, trying not to lose sleep (almost 4am, obviously failing) over the necessary but tiring official public hysteria.

The GOES imagery over the past 60-90 minutes is interesting. The eye has reduced in size to around half of what it was when it started skirting the coast. And the storm itself is looking a bit ragged. Not sure if it's dry air being sucked into it or what. I'm not that smart.

You take this thing over for a bit
Posted on 9/9/17 at 2:55 am to rbWarEagle
Nah.
We just caught a call so I'm up for a minute. Heading back doe-doe now.

She looks disorganized. Maybe that's wishful thinking. Is drinking vodka at 4am improper? Because I could use a drink.
