Am I wrong that continuing to force a mandatory evac of coastal GA starting tomorrow morning seems dumb at this point?

no but tread lightly, you're close to questioning initial forecast accuracy.

Ehh can't say that yet. If irma for some reason decides to turn sooner then were back at square one.

Yeah I get the conservative approach to some extent, it just seems like it's driving people toward an area that might actually get Cat 1 hurricane impacts (south GA) and impeding Floridians trying to get north.

Irma is going to be more of a wind event or do you see massive flooding like Harvey?

Harvey stopped and jerked off for 4 days. Irma is moving.

Right. So you would think more of a wind event and not as catastrophic flooding.

I suspect that will change the further Irma gets from the mountains in the southwest of Cuba... theres basically jet fuel between her and Florida.

Hurricane force wind field is now 70 miles in NE, SE, and NW quadrants. SW is 35 miles.

That's 140 miles across of hurricane force winds in the Northern semicircle.

How wide is FL, can't be much more than that?

I'm sure there is a risk of flooding in coastal Georgia, I just don't think it is anywhere near the level we were thinking 48 hours ago. There really may be a need for people on Georgia's coast to move inland, but the evacuation of everyone east of I 95 and all of Chatham just seems like overkill. Note that I'm not trying to dispute anything the NHC is saying, and if I'm wrong on the risk I'll admit it.

It just seems to me our state government is sticking to an outdated outlook, despite having time to change or limit the directive.

Right. Though rainfall forecasts are still significant and something to consider.

I hear you man. Just trying to lighten the mood. I know it's a stressful situation. Good luck to you and your family. Good bless all of the people in Irmas path.

Thanks, man. Sorry for being a dick. My first hurricane experience. I've only lived in FL for 4 years. I am always scared of Mother Nature as I was hit squarely by tornadoes while living in TN for 15 years. frick this shite! just on edge. I do apologize.

FL is also little over 100 miles wide at narrowest other than southern part near Everglades/Keys.
