At what point will you be concerned about the lack of north movement? It looks like tomorrow afternoon/evening it should begin a more northerly movement?

My buddy in MS just texted me that a coworker of his has a Disney vacation this week and is leaving tomorrow.

As in, they are heading TOWARDS the Cat 4/5 storm for...Disney

They are "not sure" if contraflow will be a problem.

If I remember right, Katrina overrode it's steering currents

They missed on the steering flow early and Katrina got deep fast having the upper level flow matter more.

Hurricanes are a vortex in a moving fluid. They are part of the system, not an independent feature.

How are the people with no power or communication ability in the Bahamas / Antilles going to even know they need to get ready for another round. Praying Jose heads north and out to sea.

Hopefully some have battery operated radios, you can receive a lot of U.S. AM radio stations in the Bahamas at night, there are also weather broadcasts and stations like BBC available on shortwave.

No plans to shut down at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando as Irma nears

Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World said Thursday morning they are monitoring the movement of Irma, but at this point have made no plans to shut down their parks or alter the normal hours of operations. The storm is projected to reach the southern part of the state Saturday and some tracking models have the Category 5 Hurricane reaching central Florida on Monday.

Yeah, that far out several weeks hard to believe honestly. That's a loooooooong time especially with seasonal changes for that thing to make it into GOM. Obviously a possibility but I'm not even going to watch it anytime soon
Yes, and if you buy into that forecast, here's another one for you. There's going to be a 1 degree rise in worldwide temperature 75 years from now. There's data, man. D.A.T.A.

You should have seen that map. It was like the perfect storm through the Caribbean, splitting the gap between the Yucatan and Cuba, then heading straight for the south central coast of LA. I was like a young Shepard Smith telling 5 and 6 year olds they're going to die if they don't leave. It was brutal.

I legit lol.

I read that Disney can reschedule your vaca if you booked through them directly if the area would be affected by a hurricane.

From Disney sites FAQ
quote:

Q.
If I reschedule my vacation to a different date because of a hurricane warning, will I be able to get my same accommodations?
A.
If you are scheduled to arrive within 7 days of a hurricane warning, you may call us in advance to reschedule without a Disney imposed change fee. We cannot guarantee availability of similar accommodations for the new travel dates. All amounts you paid to Disney for rooms, theme park tickets, dining plans and other Disney products and services will be applied toward your new reservation.

Any discounts or special offers applicable to your original confirmed vacation will not apply to the rescheduled vacation travel dates. You are responsible for applicable package pricing for the new vacation dates.

The policy does not apply to certain special events and dining experiences.

I can imagine going to Disney right after this storm would be a good time to go. I'm not too keen on during the storm though.

Funny enough that while my friend does enjoy Disney, he isn't stupid enough to go tomorrow.

I just want the Robert E Lee Statute to be put back up immediately to ward off any evil spirits Mitch might have caused which would send Hurricane Lee to NOLA. Every black person in the city will scream for that stature to be put back up if it hits us.

GFS is slowly trying to catch up to the Euro

Yeah. The Euro average 4-day track forecast error for the entire duration of Irma currently stands at 62.8 nautical miles (less than 75 miles). That's outstanding.
