For that core eye-wall, 50 miles inland, maybe not, just depends how fast it comes in, how fast it weakens over land, Harvey took a while for the some dry air to get sucked in, hopefully some dry air will find Irma upon landfall. It's tough to say, I guess like you're doing plan for the worse, as it certainly could be.
Just looking back at past hurricanes, we've all seen the coast demolished, like in Gulfport/Biloxi, but approx.50-60 Miles up from that in Hattiesburg..sure, lots of tree damage, but not nearly the structural damage

Give the guy a small timeout. I realize his posts with zero context don't seem out of the ordinary but those are all in a 3-4 page span and he's 100% trying to cover as much ground stirring shite as possible.

it is pretty alarming to me that both models show cat 5 landfall.

I was in Hattiesburg for Katrina. It royally fricked that place up.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck in south fla for this storm, and terribly unprepared. Best case scenario, I am able to move inland a couple miles, but it's still south fla, and the houses are crappy, and we have no shutters, no plywood, no generator, no water, etc.
Gonna ride it out, but wish I was more prepared (know I still have several days to find some water and basic supplies).

Was there a lot of roof damage to older homes/newer construction? Of course heavy utility polls/trees.

are you in Polk county still?

973 mb - this is still hurricane force winds correct? The latest GFS has it at 973 over Charlotte.

Why can't you leave. Sounds like you may need to rethink if you have no way to prepare.

You've got about 4 days to make your situation much better, and you 100% need to do so. Best of luck.

Do you have the frame for the shutters above and below the windows?
I just made some really simple ones by nailing a 2x4 and piece of plywood together. Wedge the 2x4 into top frame and then just fasten bottom end into the cbs.
Hell worst case scenario just use an impact driver to drill a few fasteners straight through some plywood into the concrete...better than just sitting there.
