In addition to impressive satellite imagery seen with now Major #Hurricane #Eta, there is also an inner core lightning burst that's encircling the eyewall on GLM.
The lightning appears in the eye, because the eyewall is sloped inward & likely is smaller than satellite estimates. LINK

The latest NHC forecast takes Eta to 120kt (140mph) before landfall.
This would be an increase of 75kt (85mph) in just 36 hours, which has never before been observed in the Atlantic after October! LINK

Eta sounds and looks like a typical WPAC super typhoon on infrared.
Minuscule eye, very tight center core wrapped in a very large moisture envelope.
The storm itself is quite small with respect to hurricane winds. Only about 30 miles across or so.

At the risk of sounding as cliche as possible, we’ll know more in 5 days or so. This this is supposed to be in the Caribbean for roughly the next 10 days.

Eta may remain a named system for at least 2 weeks.
GFS continues to have it persisting til the end of the run
Give hurricane/typhoon john a run
