Jesus. Rain doesn’t photograph well either. Probably looks even more apocalyptic in person.

No shite. The devastation here in LCH and surrounding areas is mindfrick enough, I can’t even begin to wrap my head around something like that. Nature’s fury is nuts.

Momma nature is telling 2020 to "hold my beer!". That storm just looks like hell on earth.

There are indications that this could eventually impact the US including climo, overall background pattern, and ensemble models. It is likely to impact Central America first but then will linger around for a bit before making a final move. Most likely scenario would be northward towards Florida or out through the Bahamas but there are no guarantees that stays out of the Gulf.
Looks like we will be tracking Eta for a bit. A few of the 00z model runs at Day 10.

A potential hurricane in the Gulf on Nov. 11. Wouldn't expect anything less with this season.

Honestly, it’ll be incredible if anything is left.

This is unacceptable. I need to talk to your manager.

Looking at the videos, most all houses are single story block buildings with flat roofs. Other buildings are flat roofed and there aren't many buildings over a few stories tall.
Vegetation is either palms or short and stocky trees/bushes. That is an island and a people that has evolved to weather these type storms.
It will still be a devastating aftermath, though.

I went through a typhoon when I was working in Manila, Philippines. I was on the 15th floor of the Hyatt Regency in Makati City and when I looked out of my room window I couldn't see the ground because of the blowing heavy rain.
All four streets surrounding the hotel flooded and water was about 10 inches deep in the hotel lobby.
I didn't go to work that day...

But were they true sustained typhoon winds?
