rds, it will be interesting to see if that USGS rapid deployment rain gauge in Atlantic Beach verifies.

I can’t even imagine that much water falling that fast.

At 70-100 mph.

According to the weather channel, Oriental NC is #1 with 20.37 inches.

I am not saying they are always right.

Some of the places on your link wish they only had 20.37 inches.

I think they're going with official NWS stations. This is a USGS rapid deployment station. It's designed to be set up temporarily in potential flood events in an effort to measure streams/rivers where gauge don't exist permanently.

They may be waiting to verify it, but it's not alone. This temporary gauge is a few dozen miles to the SW.

Yes, appears that way.

That gauge I posted would break the 24 hour rainfall record in the US.

BOGUE SOUND AT SR 1182 AT ATLANTIC BEACH, NC

Latest Reading:
2018-09-14 18:24:00
Precipitation (total in 1 hour): 0.92 inches
2 hours: 2.50 inches
3 hours: 5.00 inches
6 hours: 9.96 inches
12 hours: 23.86 inches
24 hours: 43.50 inches

ETA - The totals obviously have to verify, but considering the radar loop in that area, it's plausible.

Gonna see a lot of that it looks like.

It's a tropical storm with a pressure of 972. Lots of energy to unload still. River levels are going to be getting scary by tonight.

All of this rain and persistent wind is going to drop more trees and power lines down as time goes on. The wind might not have been incredible but it's just grinding down all these places in NC.

Does this slow crawl at this point mean the storm is going to lose more steam that originally thought?

The rainfall forecast in Cola keeps going down. Was 12" yesterday now down to 5"

What forecast are you reading? Weather.com still has it at around 8 inches.

Those numbers seem crazy. NWS is going with a 19.4" number and the highest I'm seeing on CoCoRaHS is 14" (but a lot those reports may not be coming in due to power and internet being down).
