Comparing last two NE eyewall drops, she looks to be regaining strength.

112@969 vs 124@965

Flight recon also report closed eye:

Hold onto your butts!

F tells you about the eyewall structure. So this would suggest the eyewall replacement is over. Now it's watching for the eye to clear out and the next strengthening phase to begin.

The "GFS" posted earlier is an experimental version.

I removed it so it doesn't create confusion

If it was the FV3, then that appears to be performing better than the current GFS. The FV3 had some issues earlier in the season but they made some tweaks and it has responded well. It has a superior micro-physics package compared to the current GFS and that may be one of the reasons it has been left of the current GFS with the landfall of Florence.

That eye looks like its going to be rather large, and it still has its warmest waters in front of her.

Someone should create a TD cane thread Bingo board featuring such phrases as: “My God”, “this thing”, “monster”....etc, etc.

She's still got work to do. Eye isn't nice and rounded yet and the SW side is a little light on convection. That being said, the cloud tops are generally cooling around the system, next recon ought to be interesting.
