Cape Hatteras peak high water level was 5.55 feet above predicted tide and 5.32 feet above average high tide.

This is second only to hurricane Matthew in 2016 at 5.76 feet above average high tide.

Here is a video of a tornado by Pender Fire Station.

The famous Jeep story: I saw the explanation of the local news...

quote:

“So he got on the beach and started driving it. I guess there’s that runoff there and he didn’t realize it was in front of him, he was looking out the window when he went off and got stuck, which you can see he actually banged up the bumper a bit,” the owner explained.

He said that his cousin started calling people to try and get someone to get it, but the conditions were too bad for anyone to get the Jeep off the beach. The Jeep’s owner said his cousin didn’t even tell him what happened, until police showed up at his door.

“He avoided me for a good hour or two because he didn’t know what to say and then police actually came to the house. And they said, ‘Hey we found your Jeep on the beach.’ Then I called him and spoke to him and he told me exactly what happened,” the Jeep’s owner said.

He said he hopes it’s not totaled, but has a feeling that it is.

“It’s probably going to end up being totaled. I didn’t want it totaled... the Jeep is an awesome Jeep,” he said.

The owner told WMBF News that he has been in touch with police and a tow company to get the Jeep off the beach when conditions get better.

I am hearing locally that a lot of people stayed inland Wilm/the beaches; because of Florence they didn't want put out of their homes for weeks. Since we got REAL LUCKY I fear this stupid trend will continue.

Flooded streets DT Wilmington. Flooded Castle Hayne some. Not bad flooding compared to Florence though. The beaches I only heard through a friend they feel very lucky. OBX hasn't had a direct hit in what is it 50 years? OBX got lucky as it was weakened. Most places are still under curfew. Local news will probably have LIVE reporting at noon.

Kevin or Steve or whatever still flying

Video

We were very lucky but like I said people were dumbasses that didn't evacuate because of Florence. There are still people in FEMA trailers on their once flooded land from Florence a year ago.

UPDATE Topsail Island reports that Dorian IMPROVED the dunes build up they did after Florence. It brought more sand needed. People are on the beach it is a beautiful day.

OBX got real lucky as well.

I have a very selfish interest in what's happening in Jacksonville, NC. I shipped a bunch of gumbo, maque choux, boudin, smothered okra, stuffed chickens and more to someone in Jacksonville so her deployed husband, who is returning tomorrow, could have some Cajun food. It is safely ensconced in their freezer, but if they lose power, all could be lost. Shipping costs for frozen food ... sigh.

In case anyone is interested check out LINK and look at all the aircraft flying in and out of the Bahamas.

You can also go to LINK

and look at all the vessels going in and out.

I have a paid subscription for this site so I can see the vessels owners and the historical track for any vessel in the world

LINK

I can spend hours on these 2 websites.

Flight aware is amazing to me the amount of aircraft in the air. Wish I had an acct there. I heard ILM NC airport was reopening at noon and checked and you can see the weakened hurricane and not much traffic around ILM NC

You can still see the type of plane, pictures and the owner of the aircraft without an account. You can also see it's history without an account

Chesapeake Channel, VA is in major flood level according to the NOAA Tides and Currents site.

The water level is 3.57 feet above predicted tide and still rising. This is happening at high tide resulting in the major flood level.

Thanks, Gris. She evacuated with her toddler, so she's safe. She's expecting a new baby girl in two weeks, so I know she doesn't need this stress!
