That’s from during eye of storm.

That’s from earlier. It’s even worse than that at this point.

That was from when the eye was over them at 1pm EST and the eyewall is still over them. That’s mind boggling

Is it still moving at like 4mph?
Also does sunlight have any effect on hurricanes. Like is getting dark going to help reduce the intensity.

some would contend that the nighttime helps a storm ramp up a bit

How close are you to the coast?

Northern side of island means ridge weakening making north turn possible on time?
We see this a lot in the Pacific with storms jumping to one side or the other of an island. It really only has short term implications for Freeport, a Cat 5 rolling the south shore probably destroys a city of 30k. Longer term, I'm not sure it matters since a lot of ensemble members don't make the turn north until after Grand Bahama and still miss Florida to the east.

That makes sense now that I think about it... Storm pulling from warm water and air is cooler so it condenses perpetuating growth in size

Last night, it got a touch stronger early, then held its' own until daylight. When daylight came, it started slowly getting stronger. When the sun got up good, it hit that hot water and sun and got angry, like an old man trying to send soup back at a deli.
We are all hoping its' interaction with the big island will back it down a touch tonight. And also, that the sun tomorrow will not perk it up again, like a pitbull on crack.

S.C. governor just ordered mandatory evacuations for some coastal counties (including mine) starting tomorrow at noon. Seems a bit premature?
I’m at the VA. We’ll be at work.

I’m scheduled to fly from Atlanta to Houston Thurs evening for the LSU/Texas game. Am I screwed?

Damn, that video with the woman (with children) asking for prayers was hard to listen to.
The videos of the devastation is quite heart breaking. Bad memories.

Unreal to see a storm this powerful find a island and just park itself and turn due west to rack the the whole island.
If Dorian makes landfall @ WPB you’ll say the same thing, except insert “peninsula” for island & “north” for west.
