Where? Birmingham? I can see that, based on career. I'll admit that I don't know much about the Gulf and South AL, other than Baldwin County is pretty solid if you're in Fairhope or Daphne.

I am not saying this out of antagonism towards the state of Louisiana, but based on my experience and what I've read on this board, there isn't anything comparable to Huntsville in terms of employment prospects, schooling, and safety in the state of LA.

Ruston > Huntsville.

I do have to ask tho. Why are the only choices AL or LA?

I'm speaking from familiarity, and to the particulars of the topic. I can just as easily tell you that Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, and Asheville are better than Huntsville.

List three.

Define this. Things to do and experience? NOLA hands down. Especially if I’m balling.

As more mid-sized options I might say Natchitoches or Fairhope. It just depends on what you want out of life.

Obviously this. Different people want different things. If you want to be able to go to the ocean every day and that is a priority, Fairhope will be significantly better to you than Huntsville.

Places I'd rather be rich? Sure, I think NOLA easily wins there.

I think for your typical person, Huntsville provides a lot of things that nowhere else in AL/LA does. It is the strongest and most stable (not necessarily largest) government of any city in LA or AL. Cost of living is extremely reasonable and a lot better place to be "average" than New Orleans. Natchitoches is about 1/10th of the size of the city of Huntsville and about 1/25th of the size of the Huntsville metro.

As someone who has been middle class in Huntsville, Birmingham, and New Orleans, I'd give an edge to Huntsville but I think they offer things for different ages. Birmingham and New Orleans are better for younger people but when it comes time to raise a family and settle down, I'd rather do it in Huntsville than anywhere else in AL or LA.

I didn't have to, you did it for me. Lots of reasons to choose other cities and smaller towns. I'm not going to convince you with anything I say, you seem to have a hard on for Huntsville. I've lived around the southeast as well and seen Huntsville go from last resort for Engineers in this area to something more tolerable.

It's not as fantastic as you make it. It's just kind of an average town with average things.

As you said it comes down to the decisions you make and things you want out of life and also a lot of bias you harbor for certain areas. I wouldn't go back to Louisiana by choice, no way you will get me in Alabama by choice either though.

Nope, I live in Chattanooga. One of the better cities to live in for my career in the south. I don't particularly want to work at the Ferry.

Not an issue if you get a better job, better options for what you like to do in life, and have amazing options in private school. Doesn't always have to be a negative.

I'm not nuke anymore, haven't been for a decade. I've stayed in Huntsville quite often now. You really want to overplay that mediocre town don't you? Only used the Ferry as an example because it's the only damn thing close to you that has what I do for a living. We aren't building shite near you any time soon.

it's a great place to live, with a great economy that continues to grow. It may not be a haven for tourism or visitors, but there aren't many better places to live and work in the state.

This is proof you're an idiot. The best engineering jobs in the southeast, and arguably the country are in Huntsville. Engineers last resort is working for NASA, Department of Defense, etc.? K!

Lol, not in Huntsville. People really didn't want to get put there. You can work much better places for those organizations straight out of college. Especially when I graduated and it hadn't grown into what it is now. Jobs in my field now are limited there even more now with no hope of ever improving. You are nuts if you think those are the best jobs in the country. Silicon Valley and a whole host of other places laughs at you.

Space race is over baw, NASA is a shell of itself and gov jobs aren't as desirable as they use to be for young engineers.
