re: Hundreds Of Amazon Workers To Walk Out, Demanding Warehouse Closure After Coronavirus Case

quote:Is it that crazy a statement to say that both types of workers should be protected against deadly diseases as they do their jobs?
Hospital workers don't get this, and they are way more at risk at their jobs than these warehouse workers.
Obviously, people who work in warehouses and people who work in hospitals face very different levels of risk and have different needs, but they should both be able to do their jobs without taking unnecessary risks to their health.

Think alt the about amount of leeway this phrasing provides. One could argue leaving your house right now is an unnecessary risk.

Yes, but surely there's a middle ground between "no one goes to work, regardless of what your job is" and "I died working for minimum wage during a viral pandemic because a multibillion dollar corporation wouldn't pay to sanitize my workspace."

They should keep this up. Amazon warehouses are already massively automated. Just a matter of time before most of those folks will be without a job after their role is taken over by a robot or automated process.

All you lazy bastards bitching about having to go to work, are gonna be out of a job real soon, just keep it up, I've already seen it happen

I cant wait for all of you sonsofbitches to die off or go back to the cesspool that is the poli board where you belong.

When and if these workers walk out, Amazon managers shouldn't let them back in. Get a few tow trucks to haul away the cars of those former employees (the ones that walked off the job) whose cars are illegally parked on private property. Let's see how long it takes to get everyone else back in line.
It seems like some Chinese workplaces have a better handle on how to contain the virus. These factories sanitize the entrance and factory floors daily. They also temperature check everyone in to work and give them a new mask; have workers spaced out a minimum distance of 1.5 - 2 meters for social distancing; stagger work schedules so that people eat lunch at different times; workers can only take their mask off to eat and are encouraged not to talk at lunch and they can eat at their work station; and employees that live on site are not allowed to go off campus.
One thing they aren't doing is paying people that don't show up to work.
While everyone wears a mask, not everyone wears gloves.

They better stay 6ft apart when they are walking out.

Yep, but it's in NY, so I'm not surprised.
The answer to what is really going on.

People with jobs considered essential who are allowed to continue going to work and earn money in the midst of a crisis decide to strike in a place where millions of people within commuting distance are currently out of work?
Posted on 3/30/20 at 11:52 am to Will Cover
There are millions of people without work right now. Fire everyone who walks out and hire someone in their place.

I have a client who works at an Amazon warehouse here in TN. He just got a raise from about $15/hr to $19/hr BECAUSE OF covid and they are also giving everyone double time pay for all OT hours they put in during this pandemic. Not sure exactly what the hell you think, but Amazon workers are taken care of very well compared to others. Their benefits are top notch as well.
For the workers that want to stage a "walk-out" I'm sure there are plenty of people ready to take their places.

And just like that, the talking points went poof.

My whole foods was making people stand 6 feet apart in line and only letting in the amount of cashiers they had so like 6 people in the store. 1 person per cashier. We went somewhere else. Had to get my bacon fix.
