I mean, I get that the suburbs are safe, I have family in Arlington and I've never felt unsafe anywhere around where they live. But, it's definitely not the same everywhere you go in the city. My cousin is a big dude (probably 6'3 220 ex-military), and told me about a story of being chased while he was riding on one of those electric scooters and it's not like he was being dumb riding around Anacostia

It's Memphis, and it's terrible.

We live in Memphis, right by the Central BBQ on Central (the original one).

Beale is fine, they won't have any problems. There are scammers they should be aware of similar to Bourbon. Downtown is pretty touristy.

Graceland is in just about the shittiest, most dangerous part of Memphis. That being said, once you get there it's fine. Overton Square and Cooper/Young areas are fun places to checkout as well. Shelby Farms is the 2nd largest urban park in the US behind Central Park and is phenomenal, they have buffalo there.

BBQ is incredibly subjective. Everyone will tell you their favorite spot, and there will be a line of folks behind every answer saying that place fricking sucks. You honestly can't go wrong with any of the popular places.
BBQ Shop is great for ribs, Commissary is great, Bain's is solid for brisket (not Memphis bbq), I also highly recommend Elmwood's Shack.

Overall, they'll be fine in any of those areas honestly. I lived in corporate housing at 266 Lofts downtown for about 6 months before we bought our home in Central Gardens about 10 years ago. We love our midtown bublle.

If I was that concerned about the safety of my parents, I'd hop a flight and be their escort. Also they would be paying

Lived in the DC area for years (followed by a move to the Memphis region, incidentally…still not the safest city, but could afford a much better spot in Memphis versus DC) and this tracks. The burbs of DC can be phenomenal. DC itself is such a mixed bag. Lived in Palisades and loved it. Then moved to a gentrifying area near North Cap and the difference was astounding. Literal shite all over the sidewalk. Lines wrapped around the block waiting for the liquor store to open. House next door got shot up twice in two weeks. Immediately planned a move to TN after that happened. DC is a typical blue city where consequences don’t exist for wrongdoers and they feel very empowered to misbehave.

I live just outside of Memphis, work a little north of Memphis. I carry a Glock 26 at all times. Not much downtown I'd want to see this time of year, WREG news posts weekend happenings on their homepage.

no they both retired during the Biden administration on their own. They save a lot and were able to retire on the younger side.

They should go between 10pm-2am. Gavin Newsome will appreciate it.

Also, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more accurate map than the one posted earlier.

d also recommend the tour at Sun Studio. Was around $20 and the guide was very knowledgeable. The original recording studio has basically been untouched and an amazing piece of nostalgia. A nice little souvenir shop is right next door.

I’ve been and I agree it is so awesome.

How is this possible? DC isn't the safest place in the world by a longshot.

They don’t go into DC almost ever since retirement except maybe to drop us off if we need a ride since parking in the city can be a nightmare. They stay in their suburb which is angelic. Also, northwest DC/georgetown are maybe the only places they go if they do ever go into town. Those are nice areas close to the Virginia border so it’s not like they’re traversing through ghetto to get there.

I don’t think either of my parents have ever stepped foot into southeast DC.

It sounds like you never actually go into the city at all and only get your info from the fear mongering news. Nothing downtown? Memphis in May just passed...

I mean, I literally jog downtown at 5 AM or around 10 PM ~4 days a week, and have for years with no issues whatsoever.
