Agreed.
Saying we don't benefit at all is disingenuous.
But saying higher taxes means better outcomes is absolutely asinine with how irresponsible our Gov't is with money.
It's like giving a crackhead $100, them spending $90 on crack and $10 on food, and you saying "well if we just give them more money they'll be able to buy more food".

We can cut government spending by 50% and I bet the sleezeballs in Washington won't lower our taxes.
Taxes never actually seem to go down.
ETA:
FTR, still in favor of dramatic spending cuts.

Tax rates or tax dollars paid?
We have historically low tax rates at the federal level; however in total dollars tax revenues are up but that is a function of a growing and larger economy.

Of course you do, you need to help finance the debt. Sometime in the not too distant future, 100% of government revenues will have to go towards interest on the debt. Do your part.

My taxes went down substantially back in 2017. Yours didn't?

Everyone on the OT is a temporarily embarrassed millionaire. They should just work a little bit harder, and they can be rich like daddy Elon.

I get 10-99s for my off-duty security work.
24% Federal income tax
13% Self-employment tax
1.45% Medicare tax
8.25% Sales tax on anything that I buy with the proceeds.
Total:46.7%

From the Congressional Budget Office, revenue sources and expenditures. Interest on the debt is much larger than the total spent on defense. Both parties to blame along with all Presidents since Bush.

Stop getting so emotional lol. Jesus.
The was that the seldomly used services described do not warrant the insane amount of taxes being paid.
Wipe your tears away, stop screeching, and calm down.
FYI where I live law enforcement makes traffic 10x worse blocking off entire lanes of traffic over minor accidents that are already on the shoulder. But thank your for your unrequested anecdotal evidence...

Around 19% AGI. Pretty standard. I think I have one more check next Friday.

You going to pack all of the suburbanites into the already crowded inner cities? Or are you going to disperse them in rural areas?

Well my eyes tell me the interest is $946 billion and Dept of Defense is $826 billion.

Not sure what point you're trying to make. MY point is that taxpayers receive the benefit of the military's existence. To read these threads about "theft", you'd think nothing of value was received at all. Meanwhile, they're likely more addicted to govt money than they even realize.

My point is no way can there be huge cuts in any one year. Both parties have kicked the can down the road in this century including all Presidents.
With $35 Trillion in debt, you are looking at the need for 25+ years in sensible debt reduction discipline. Discipline and Congress are not compatible.
What is really needed is more revenue along with cuts in spending. The scary thing is $1billion in cuts is a drop in the bucket. The goal has to be something like 10% increase in revenue through tax hikes or deduction elimination and 15 to 20% in cuts. At least you are gaining about 10% per year.
