Sorry I'm reading these and replying multiple times... go to Bowen House bar during the week and sit at the bar. Small and you can chat with the bartenders asking for advice. Also, Bumble a lot.

Basically you just have to be comfortable in your own skin and strike up conversations with people with whom you might not have otherwise spoken to if you were in your hometown. You just end up meeting good people, but you also have to know how to read people. I grew up an army brat so I became an expert at this by the time I was about 15. I lived in 10 different states by the time I was 18 so I was forced to be somewhat of an expert at this.

I've moved to a couple new places where I knew little to no one. Back then (pre tinder) match.com was all the rage. If you're in a big city and not creepy, you should clean up. (I had to get a calendar to start organizing the Who/what/when) ....
Biggest thing is to just 'do' things, don't sit around your home, and do them confidently. Doesn't matter if you're @ a bar alone, if you project the confidence, meeting people will be a piece of cake. Focus on the positives of being single/mobile and enjoy!
Pro tip: most major cities have really good happy hour specials to get people in after work, free food, free/cheap drinks, etc.... And it's even easier to meet people @ happy hour than late @ night

Parliament in Uptown has the best happy hour. Every day from 5-8, all day Monday, and whenever it rains they have Old Fashions and Mint Juleps for $4, some other nice whiskey drinks, and some other girly shite. Gets packed with beautiful women getting off work. Always a good idea.

Stand on a corner holding a sign that invites everyone to your gender reveal party.

Alumni associations
Join a gym that offers group classes
Join a social organization or intramural sports team
It's one of those things that takes time and tends to happen whenever you're not trying. I moved to Boston 4 years ago without knowing a single person here other than my SO. Now we have an amazing group of friends, many of whom will be in our wedding party.
But yeah, the first few months were pretty crappy.

For sure some type of kickball, softball, dodge ball league.
I joined a sports league a few years ago and have made several new friends from it.

Am I the only person who likes to do shite by myself? Yeah, it's fun to have friends tag along sometimes, but I just prefer doing whatever random shite I wander around to do without anyone slowing me down

There are certain things that are more solo activities (insert fap joke here), but in general I'm a very social person and after a few days of flying solo I'm definitely seeking a social activity.

Here's another tip for the OP from someone who goes solo a lot:
Get comfortable keeping your phone in your pocket. You can't meet anyone with a cell phone in your face

Never worried about making friends. Too busy working or involved in other interests.

If you go to a happy hour somewhere, the best physical place I've found to strike up a conversation is ALWAYS at the elbow of the bar. Not the side but a corner where the bar turns.
Position yourself there. Don't pull out your phone. Don't intently watch the sports on the tv. And start talking.
"Hey. What kinda drink is that?" Get the reply and do not ask a follow-up question. Nobody likes being interrogated. Follow up with something true from your life about the answer.
"Gin? Damn last time I drank gin I ended up in the back of a police cruiser..." and then your off chatting up people.
Oh, and as said before, walk in owning the place.

Meetup is legit. You just have to find the right group.

Tell him about how you almost drowned. As you know, it's all improvising as you go.
