I've asked this before but... Does anybody remember a PBS documentary from the '80s narrated by Burt Lancaster? It was called "Goodbye Louisiana" or something like that. In it the then mayor of Morgan City insisted that someday MC would be "sacrificed to save NO"

One of the Baton Rouge weather guys said the midwest flooding will cause the Miss River to rise in Baton Rouge between 4 and 6 inches in a week or two.

A lot more reservoirs west of Mississippi as well, I think allows them to maintain the out flow to the Mississippi much more so than the outflow from the east.
