How will the Life Insurance Carriers react to Pandemic conditions?

I’m not making any claims as to the severity of this latest Corona virus. I’m just interested to see how this particular industry manages their financial risk. Nothingburger or mass casualties, it is an interesting question.
Will they all continue to write policies with impunity? Will they keep accepting new low cost term policies? Will they deal with possible increased claims by raising rates ? Are “ pandemics” excluded? Will there be a specific Corona virus exclusion?

I work in the industry. As far as I can tell, unless you have already contracted Corona, we're willing to write a policy like any other day.
For reference, if 100,000 people died from Corona, it would still only be.025% of the population. If we exclude the uninsurable, maybe .04% of the population...
Especially since NO ONE who was previous healthy has died from Corona in the US!

I’m sure they’ll delay and obfuscate paying claims like usual.

This may be the case with health insurance, but with life insurance it's pretty cut and dry. If they are past the two year exclusion period, and weren't in the act of committing a felony, claim is paid once that certificate is received. The end.

My policy has some mass casualty exclusions I think. I seem to remember war for instance . I could see carriers issuing exclusions before raising rates across the board that would be necessary from all the extra claims. Or more likely, a cap of some kind that would limit exposure.

Then I'd have to hire boosie to expedite my claim...for mere 40% commission.

I think they will still write you a policy for death by earthquake real cheap.

Mmhmm. And material misrepresentations?

You’re free to continue to negotiate with the insurance company directly. This is America

State Farm didn't do this with my grandmother. My mom got a check written to her 5 minutes after she presented a death certificate

Hopefully this will make the agents stop calling and begging to discuss life insurance even though you have no kids and life insurance through work.

Probably continue business as usual and just not write policies for old people that already had 1 foot in the grave before coronavirus existed

You should go ahead and lock in some extra while you can get cheap premiums. Most people say shite like "I have life insurance at work" and all it is is a final expense policy that covers funeral costs. I don't have any kids yet but went ahead and locked in a $1million whole life policy pretty cheap a few years ago. A year later I was diagnosed with a condition that certainly would have probably caused me to be ineligible for my policy had I waited. My premiums certainly would have been much more had I waited

Agreed. Always have a life insurance policy that is exclusive of your employer. The “ I got insurance at work” guy is the same guy that loses his shite when he finds out he lost his coverage after his employment ended and that he is either now uninsurable or his monthly premium is now fiddybilliontrillion. Just pay the $29 a month, lock it in for 30 years and forget about it. Especially being an OT baller.
