I've been on the industrial side most of my career

Just had a call from a commercial firm about a project management position in the area

Not really sure what salary expectations would be in that market and don't want to low ball myself. Also don't want to request some absurd amount that would disqualify me either.

They called you? Id frankly go with the popular sales tactic of making them say a price first. Did they not ask your current compensation or make any sort of offer?

They just pulled my resume off of a job board

First meeting will be with them on Friday. They didn't make any sort of offer yet.

It pays real well if you're a raging a-hole. Only pays decent if you're a decent human being.

Starts in the 40-60k range but goes up from there. Commercial generally pays significantly less than industrial.

The flip side is that the hours are typically much less strenuous, far more lax about things like facial hair and drug testing, more job security, way less travel, easier time taking vacation days, and an order of magnitude less dangerous.

Not great. I am a industrial PM and have had a few commercial guys come after me. When I told them what I was expecting to make I never heard from any of them ever again.

I guess those are all things to consider. I could do it for a while until something more lucrative opens up

You work for ISC or a competitor? You’ll take a 20% pay cut typically for commercial.

Used to be this way, but you can get paid well if you are experienced as the OP with 12 years in. May not break the bank like industrial but I wouldn’t ask for much less as an assumption. Big commercial companies can pay well

If you’re not working now it’s certainly better than nothing.

In the BR area I would expect to take a significant cut to what you were making on the industrial side especially if you had a lot of time in continuously with one company.

I'm in south Texas

But yeah, I don't expect to get back to what I was making but if I could at least get close that would be nice

Depends. It's scaled to the complexity of the projects.
