No offense but you made the decision to add that dog to all your other family obligations. It’s not the dog’s fault that his schedule isn’t aligning with what you want.

Perhaps you should look in the mirror to see what a jackass might really look like. I am wide awake (and most productive) in the late evening and early morning hour. The night animals have gone to bed and the morning animals have not awakened yet. It is very peaceful and quiet and allows me to think.
This started as a kid working on a farm but was very effective when I did city work. I was the first to be ready to make calls in the morning so I got stuff done instead of multiple ineffective tries of my co workers. I got promoted, they did not so it seemed to work for me.
I think the non US folks have it set up better ==> work early morning, sleep afternoon, work at night.

So if he wants the dog to sleep a touch longer he should just say”it’s what the dog wants”.
The man has been called lazy, young w no commitments, irresponsible. He just wants the dig to stay in kennel

she runs and grabs a ball to play. When we bring her back inside, she runs straight to her food bowl and barks/whines until we feed her.
Dogs are like young toddlers, especially in the first few years.
After a few years, they become like older toddlers, forever. This is when they are more likely to adapt closer to your schedule and you won't have the fear of them shitting the bed.
I have come to realize that there is no magic training other than time. "We worked with our dog and after a year she is all better..." That year in their young life is a huge area of growth into their environment.

Dogs are very food motivated. You trained her that when she wakes up at 5:45 she goes outside and then gets food.

5:45 isn’t terrible. Be an adult. Get the day started early. Coffee and sunrise and then go cut some trees down or something.

My dog only wanted to go out so she could come back in.

At least I have no worry of having you live in my hood. Pretty much all my neighbors have mid size and large dogs (no foo foo's) and most have more than 1.
The issue isn't the dogs. We have 6 Curs (hog dogs), 6 beagles (rabbit dogs), 4 working labs, a Boykin and a treeing Feist. I know dogs. I also know where they belong. And it's not on my fricking couch.

huh? 5am is not some super early time.
You are the problem.. by just about any metric, 5am is very, very early .

I was in sales a long time. ……………. Screw that. 8 am trying to be done at 3
Pretty much says it all about your type .. Done by 3pm ?? Ive been in sales for almost 20 yrs, probably more successful than you, and i am never really “off” of work.. im available until whenever at night if the clients- or their staff- who i work with have questions…. It’s usually just a text or quick call, but i try to go above and beyond if i can.. being “done by 3pm” is as foreign a concept to me as being awake or even slightly functional at 5am .

Just take solace in knowing that in November 5th that the dog will start waking you up at 4:45a.

My 13 year old dog died 2 years ago. This isnt our first dog. This is me asking for help in how to train my dog to stop waking up early. Dogs are trainable so I’m asking for tips on how to train it, not for douchebags to tell me how I’m a terrible person/father for not wanting to wake up at 5:45. I already know that.

Complete opposite here.
I wake at 3am to get ready for work and our pups look at me like WTF are you doing. Then, once I get out of bed, they take my spot and go back to sleep.
They have free reign of the backyard (doggie door), so they go out when they want and never have to wake anyone to go out.

No wonder we have a mental health crisis in this country and people are tired and miserable.. 3am isnt a wake-up time , it is a bedtime .

Some ridiculous dick measuring on an anonymous board. I am 53. I am trying to be done. Not worry about some device guy.
Sorry you aren’t capable of controlling your schedule. Good luck. And enjoy the snooze.

Oh the irony .
Dick measuring is “Look at me ! I wake up at 4AM ! .. Well, look at MEEEE ! I wake up at 3:30 !!!
I am in almost complete control of my schedule, and i think it’s actually a positive thing that we’re all different , some are early birds and some of us are night owls… the problem is that most early birds think their way is somehow ‘better’ and they try to impose their schedule and old school mindset on the rest of us .

Don’t let that pup run your life.

If I went to bed at 3a every morning I would be miserable too.

Move feeding back at night Ignore the whining in the crate until you’re ready to get up. It’s going to suck but will take a few days Very important do not feed the dog right when they get up, you’re motivating it to get up early so it can get food. Once you get up don’t feed for 30-45 minutes.
We feed our dog twice a day and the second feeding is late, like 9 pm for this reason.

Eh. My dog has slept fine until as late as 10am since she was a baby. Actually when she was a baby it was like noon because I was a lazy college student. These days we go out about 8:30/9:00ish.
