How to secure an outside A/C condenser short of building/installing a cage?

Any ideas on ensuring that new unit is not stolen or stripped? Thanks in advance --

What? Must be in a shitty part of town.

Have a cage built and anchor it to the slab. Do have a door on the service side with a good lock. The anchor bolts, grind them so they can not be removed.

It's near UNO, where a good part of town meets a not-so-good part of town. I don't have a slab per se but a four-post wooden platform anchored into the ground with concrete. The platform itself is sort of small compared to the unit -- a 2.5-ton/16 SEER Rheem -- which rests on a plastic pad sitting on top of the wooden platform. So I'm not 100% sure how feasible a prefabricated cage would be. The block I'm on has not seen any significant crime in the 3 or so years I've been in the vicinity, so I'm trying to find cheaper/easier alternatives to a cage.

Move. If some crack head wants it they'll likely take it. Can you put a fence in front of it? Maybe just hide it from the view from the street.

Yep, I was right. I grew up not to far from that hood back in the 1960's-1970's. Was a very good area back in the day till mid 1970's.

Heck, if they want it, they will get it no matter what you do. Being on a wood stand, just maybe nail some concrete wire around it. That might slow them down from stealing it. But like I said, if they want it, nothing is going to stop them. Oh, add some lighting above it at night. A good solar powered LED light would help and no wiring needed.

Like running from a bear and being slightly faster than you friend, the trick is not to be the easiest meal. Anything you can do to make yours harder to steal than your neighbors is a good thing. Even if its just cosmetic.

Lots of people have been placing them on rooftops of apartment buildings to keep the thieves away.

Doesn’t sound like you have many options if a cage is out.

Get your alarm company to put a pressure sensor on the Freon. If someone fools with your unit, the alarm will trip.

Just spray paint, "If you see me carrying this, I'm gay" on the side of it. Then, no one would touch it. Everyone knows bla..... err.um.. crack heads are homophobic.

I've seen ones on the roof that people ripped apart. If someone wants in, they're getting in
