You don't need a mentor to tell you that schools with horrible employment rates and low bar passage numbers are bad. That's called common sense and responsibility.

You have white friends that scored below acceptance standards yet got into top 10 schools?
Yep, because hey, a LSAT score isn't everything.
He got a 155 and got into a top 8 school in the 2017 rankings. Smartest guy I know. Works for a top 10-15 firm and probably made $250k out the gate.
Yep

A 155 is usually the median at LSU. There's no way in hell a white person gets into a top 10 school with a 155.

Everyone would be rich if that was the case.
I think you're undershooting how much a mentor helps. I mentor underprivileged youth; you'd be shocked how much they dont know or how much they haven't been exposed too. Common sense just isn't gonna "click" for some people.
Some people need to be shown how.

Why do they have to be affluent?

Maybe fatherhood should be more important to those folks

He did it. Had a MPA from a great southern state school as well and worked for a foreign govt for 2 years post grade. Exceptional candidate that is more than his test schools. Took the LSAT 3 or 4 times and couldn't crack 160.
Does it matter now that he's passed his state bar exam on the first try and practices at one of the best firms?

Making up stories to help your case is bad form

So you mean to tell me a person with a college degree doesn't have the mental capacity to research a school they're applying to?

So, you're the black goldennugget?

Because studies show that you're chances of being [insert professional career] are significantly higher if you have a parent or mentor that is one. Thats facts.
So yeah it helps to have an affluent parent. They have the resources and knowledge to guide you in the right direction. I see it every day with the kids i mentor. Their margins for error are smaller and the barriers for entry they will have to hurdle will be exponentially higher than affluent kids. and its not because of a lack of
"knowledge."

The OP set the tone with a really low expectation for black folk. He acts like they're incapable of making good choices.

You mean the snide remarks that strong safety made about how black people aren't able to tell when they're being swindled?

No im not saying that; what I am saying and the article is saying is that they may not know how to play the game within the game to increase their odds. They may not have the resources to take LSAT prep courses that little johnny who's is a second generation lawyer has. They have to work and go to school at the same time that takes time away from studying, which could affect their scores.

The overwhelming majority of people who do well for themselves grew up without affluent mentors.

I never said that. I said black students may not know how to play the game because they are not aware of it, not because they lack the knowledge or aptitude.
