We have a lady that always hangs out by our building begging in the afternoons. She doesn’t appear to be a druggie, but all she does all day is hang out in front of a church the first half the day and our building late afternoon.

Someone set out a few big containers of leftover BBQ in one of our offices today and I packed up the ribs and pulled chicken for my meal this evening. Ended up giving it to the dumb woman. Damn good ribs too so it was hard to do.

Her purse and wallet is in the car.

Should have just offered to call the tow company for her so that she could get her purse back.

You'd be real surprised at the level of detail someone will lie about to part you from your money.

She said they were at the Marriot and said they only needed $23 more to get a room.

Why not get a ride to where they towed the car? Or was she just broke too? Broke arse car, no money, but going to provide so much help to her daughter? You were scammed out of 2 bucks dude.

Tried and true scam. I will usually give the person $5 if they do a good con job. If I am in a hurry I ignore them.

A guy who appeared to have cerebral palsy approached my car at the QT gas station the other evening as I was backing out. Goes "sir can you do me a favor?" I immediately said "no, I can't" and drove off. He replied, "wow, nice guy, thanks!"

Felt like a POS for a minute, but I've seen shite like that play out too often.
Don't feel bad. There was a guy in downtown Atlanta, over 20 years ago, that had crutches and would contort his body to make it look like he had some affliction. He would station himself at one of the MARTA entrances on Peachtree when people got off work. Lots of folks, including me, would give him change and more. Some would stop and talk to him.

I was downtown early one Saturday morning and saw him walking as normal as anyone and carrying his crutches on his shoulder. That ended my street donations.

I think you should have offered the Old Lady a 10 spot for a Bj..and told her there's 50 more for you Daughter to do the same.
Heck I would have just rented the dang room and banged them both for a Hundred spot all night.... winning

I’d have offered to give her a ride to the tow company to retrieve her belongings

Yes and it's probably saved my life. Little good comes from getting involved with random people in 2023.

Nothing is perfect but you can minimize your risks. like choosing not to live in New Orleans for example.

I was walking into a casino with a family member and a woman said “excuse me can you help me for a second?” We assumed she was going to ask for money and just walked by, she ended up asking someone to help her up a step on the sidewalk, I felt terrible. But 95% of the time a stranger tries to get your attention it’s to ask for money.

No matter what she did after, it says more about your character than hers. I don't mind helping people in need. Most of the posters in this thread are miserable people. Be glad you are not them!
