Find a jewelry wholesaler out of your region. Usually they can't sell direct to consumers in the area they serve but they can sell direct to consumers outside the area. Trust me by far the best deal. just usually have to pay for it in cash.

This is 100% not true.

No it's not. One of my close friends owns A Bryan's in Laffy. Hes got every too certification that exists and designs and builds rings as well.

He now carries a line of top man made (it may not be called cz, I'll call and find out the top ones name).

Found it, the best of the best is the lab grown ones

quote:

The International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research offers several verification instruments (at pretty hefty price points) that can tell the difference between lab-grown and natural diamonds in a matter of minutes or seconds. In the DiamondView machine, type IIa natural diamonds fluoresce blue while lab-grown ones using the CVD technique fluoresce orange. But the DiamondView costs up to $36,000. The D-Screen, a handheld device, is only about $500 and can tell you whether a stone is natural or could be lab-grown or lab-treated to make it colorless. You still have to test those stones in a lab (using a device like DiamondView) to know for sure if it’s natural or not, though. Watch the DiamondView in action here:

That is from a simple search in a science magazine.

This below is from a too genealogist in the world:

quote:

IS THERE A WAY TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE?

"Although it is difficult for the naked eye to tell the difference between a real diamond and a laboratory-grown diamond, there is a detection device on the market that can easily tell the difference. These devices will soon become a must-have in retail stores all over the world and the detection will continue to become easier and easier as technology advances. We are also seeing more and more companies' laser inscribe the side of the stone to disclose that it is synthetic—making it easier to distinguish. When buying a diamond, it is essential to ensure that it comes with certification from a reputable third-party certification company such as GIA, IIDGR, AGS, or HRD. All of these will note if the stone is in fact lab-grown."

quote:

That's why we sat down with Grant Mobley, a gemologist, a director at Pluczenik and one of the world's leading diamantaires to talk about the nitty gritty of diamonds—to make sure you're never caught out.

Again, I state facts. At a dinner table, with experts, they would have trouble or not be able to tell by looking at her hand with bare eyes.

So, back to the conversation. It's just about fact that if your wife walks around with a 2 carat lab grown fake, her whole life sh will basically see no one that would ever be able to tell it weren't real with their bare eyes.

Are there better prices out there for the kind of diamond I bought, with identical qualities?

The good lab stones are pricey, some almost as mush as regular stones. But experts can tell a difference and the equipment needed if unable is usually at every jeweler and not expensive as made to seem in quote

How much wiggle room do they have? I’ve heard some will come down up to 40% but you have to Jew around with them.

With that mentality you’ll wind up paying 1000% over retail.

And how many experts are gonna scrutinize the ring. My wife has a $20 cz ring that she wears sometimes and other women always compliment it.

If you feel that you need to spend a lot of money for her to be happy then you don't want her anyway.

She’d have a $10k ring the same amount of time. (Theoretically)

I didn't need to do anything. I did it because I wanted to.

I could have given her a yarn ring and she would have married me.

Women with expensive rings get insurance on them. If you bought her a big cz and told her it was real, you better hope she doesn't decide to one day get it appraised for insurance

LOL...agreed. my wife is a professional and has always worked in a great income environment.
She would be pissed if I bought her a $20k ring or earrings that she wears out and about. She buys cz type stuff all the time..mostly because she values money and understands what women act like over diamonds.
Sure, she has a few real items to pass on over sentimental reasons. But they have no value unless they are sold. Which defeats the purpose

True. But it's a nice thing I wanted to do. She'll wear it every day for the rest of her life (theoretically).

They will call you with a price... say you know i really like the diamond but the price is out of my range. They will come down 15-20% and then you say i think im gonna pass. Then you call them back and give them your price which is another 10% lower and say if you meet it ill buy it period. I do this shite with window companies and everything... they will always come down to your price.

Buy a diamond from a wholesaler, like A Fishman and Sons, then get a ring made...preferably at a nice jeweler who works through multiple national designers, like Jeff Cooper or the like.
