How to deal with a smelly co-worker?

Anybody got any pointers on how to properly confront a co-worker about their hygiene? I currently have a person that works with me that can leave out the office and go outside and work for 5 minutes in even cooler temps and when he comes back in god bless. It smells like somebody opened a can of straight arse, the whole office goes to smelling and it is almost unbearable. I am not sure if he doesn't use laundry detergent, doesn't bath with soap, doesn't wash his clothes at all or what.
The question is is there a way to confront this individual without getting into trouble or how would you handle it.

Pee on them and tell them how much better they smell.

Sorry, I don’t work with trashy people.

Pull them to the side and tell them they smell and they need to implement daily hygiene.

Don't go to them directly. Talk to either your manager or hr. Let them deal with it.

Have a co-worker I work with constantly that has horrendous coffee breath.
I bought Costco size bags of mints and put them in a bowl on my desk, which is a few feet from his, and said they're "for everyone".
It has actually worked out quite well.

This doesn't help you, sorry.

Super awkward thing, but you gotta tell him. Go through HR if you wanna CYA.
No joke, I was the assistant manager at a retail job in highschool. I had to fire a guy 10 years older than me cause he smelled so bad it was scaring people out of the store. Gave the dude a warning and he just started spraying on Axe body spray before he came in

This is what i am thinking. I think if i confronted him myself he would take it offensive. I been smelling it for about a year now without saying anything but everybody in the office cant hardly take it anymore.

I've been the manager on the other end of that conversation. The subsequent conversation with stinky was extremely uncomfortable. I think I'd rather fire someone than have it again.

You need to make a "Smelly List" and rank all of your co-workers by smell.
I've heard this has good results.

Leave a note on their desk with the below message.
Ooh, ooh, you might not ever get rich
But let me tell ya, it's better than diggin' a ditch
There ain't no tellin' who you might meet
A movie star or maybe even a Indian Chief
At the car wash
