You should be able to solve this in your head IMO.

170 +2x = 200
2x = 200-170
2x = 30
X = 30/2
X = 15
That’s the maths.
But you should be able to figure it out in your head without doing that work

Probably Tim Pool’s subtle way of getting Matt’s attention to ask him to appear on his show.

m + p = 200
p + 170 = m
(p + 170) + p = 200
2p = 30
p = 15
p + 170 = m
(p + 170) + p = 200
2p = 30
p = 15

If you’re going to write it out why would you introduce “X” and “y”, two variables when all you need is one?
170 + x = 200 - x
And just solve for x.
170 + x = 200 - x
And just solve for x.

WTF is going on in here?
Posted on 11/12/25 at 1:29 pm to Sassafrasology
Just for clarity that x is involved 2 different ways

Two parrots plus 170 is 200. 1 parrot is 15.

Its drawn to confuse you intentionally and make the problem harder than it is.

X is just the size of the parrot and yes, the size of the parrot is compared in two ways that are equal to each other so you can find out how tall the parrot is.

Most likely this argument is for why public schooling sucks.
If that was a test question and that was my answer.
2p+170=200
p=15
The teacher would give me no credit or partial credit. Never full credit. And the teacher would spend entirely way too long on these types of questions.
