I’m born and raised in Baton Rouge but recently moved to Monroe. I’m very surprised how often those rednecks say I have a South LA accent. They all sound country as shite. I guess I just don’t sound country.

My accent is very strong I believe, but oddly more of a South Carolina type. No reason why it is so, but true.

From southern WV.. whenever we traveled to Morgantown for WVU games (about 2.5-3 hours north) people thought I was from Tennessee Alabama or Georgia because of the accent. Ive lost a lot of it but it does come out at times.

Its amazing how our state is so small yet there's literally 4 or 5 different parts where the people talk and are built differently

Like I said our state is so small but u can drive 200 miles away into what people outside would say is the HEART of Louisiana and u might as well be in Missouri or something

My first to years of high school were in Las Vegas before I moved to the big town of Pineville.

When I was at LSU my freshman year my English professor said where the hell are you from Kansas or something. When I said born and raised in Louisiana he was shocked. The accent in SW LA from Lake Charles to Beaumont TX kind of throws people off. It’s a mixture of hick and twang or something.

In the South, they think I'm from out west. Out west, they know I'm from the South.

My accent is pretty faint as well. Born in NOLA, raised in BR.i lived in Kansas for a year, and maybe had 2 people ask where I was from the whole time. I grew up watching Disney channel in the 90s, and my parents weren’t from here, so I never really picked up the dialect. My grandpa though... you can tell he’s from Metairie.

Culturally I'd say there are at least three main distinctions in the state. The hill country from about Ruston all the way around to Deridder (and also that in the Florida parishes) is completely different from the Mississippi, Ouachita, and Red River delta lands which are different from Cajun country. New Orleans is also its own thing, owing to it being a port city. All port cities sound similar.
I've been told I have a decent accent at times. It changes according to who I'm around. My mom was always a stickler about proper pronunciation.
